Christmas 2020 saw the sad demise of my son's 12 year companion an Australian Cattle dog mix, mostly heeler but a hefty 55 pounds.

This is the new baby, a Pure bred Blue Heeler. She will only reach 30 pounds but will hopefully have all the previous dogs devotion and character.

Matt, in the middle got married. These are our three kids.

Our son's elementary school has this climbing wall in their gym - our boys have loved it. Our youngest zips right up there and loves the repel but he's so quick I didn't get a shot of it :o(

My son's footwear. (UK size 13) He's a big fella. Photographed on a bench in our garden.

Have a great Thursday! I'll go on a little flickr break (again) tomorrow - my son's 5th birthday has to be prepared and we will have guests! - Take care!

Went to the beach with my son and his dog Fern. Fern was immediately drawn to the exiting smell of rotten seaweed buried in the sand. It was obvious that ISO 100 wasn't up to capture the action without motion blur, however here she is in full action digging her way to the interesting smell.

Charlie more likely to be taking part in our son's YouTube vid's these days. Totally shameless plug - go look and give him a thumbs up - he's learning!!

Winter is coming...

Cold nights and frosty mornings are just around the corner. Stay warm ❤

This is a photo of one of my son's best friends. I had a chance to take a photo of him in his late grandpa's house.

I just got my crocheted octopus by RubySubmarine.etsy.com!

it's so cute!

(one of my fave necklaces by gemmafactrix.etsy.com - it has my son's name on it. I'm going to have to get another one when chubbette is born.)

Self-anointing is a behaviour exhibited by all species of Hedgehog, but nobody really knows why they do it. I have never seen a wild Hedgehog self-anoint, but rearing this orphaned youngster has given me plenty of opportunities to witness it. They create a foamy saliva then undergo contortions to cover those hard-to-reach bits using their surprisingly long tongues. You can see the foamy saliva on that ridge near her tongue. My Hedgehog self-anoints when she tastes or smells something new, such as the first time she tasted cat-food, a worm, marjoram, and even after licking my son's feet. But sometimes she just does it for no apparent reason. The term self-anointing was coined by Maurice Burton, and was first used in a 1958 paper in New Scientist documenting the behaviour. But the behaviour was first recorded by German zoologist Ludwig Heck in 1912, when he called it selbstbespuchen, or ‘self-spitting’. Various theories have been put forward to exlain it (eg masking their smell, creating an extra irritant for would-be predators, deterring parasites) but for each idea there are examples that run counter to it. Anyway, there seem to be very few photographs on Flickr showing this behaviour, and it is something I wasn't previously aware of, so I thought I would share it. If you want to read more about the various theories attempting to explain the behaviour this is the best site: www.wildlifeonline.me.uk/animals/article/european-hedgeho...

Cherry casting a spell 🎃.

The black pumpkin with the green glow is my son’s Jack-o-lantern.

The bronzed shoes are my husband's first baby shoes. The white ones are our son's first shoes. Bronzing was popular at one time but not by the time our sons were born. I find the changing 'crazes/fads' of different generations rather fascinating.

Our oldest turned 16 a couple weeks ago - thought you might like to see his first car!

Situated on Derby's Queens Street, this historic building is where John Smith commenced his clock making business in 1856, after taking over from his mentor, another well known local clock manufacturer; John Whitehurst. The first Astronomer Royal also previously used the premises for some of his astral experiments. It also had connections to Erasmus Darwin and Benjamin Franklin.

So is historically significant. It has remained vacant, since Smith's relocated in 2000.

Dad's watch , not sure how old at least from the 1940's. My 25 year service award from work from 1992 , now those were the days. Actually service award and involuntary retirement, both at the same time!!

There are two species of Trochosa wolf spiders in the Swedish fauna. Trochosa tericola and T. ruricola and together they are known as bear spiders. From this photo it is very difficult to tell which of the two this is, but at least we know it is a Trochosa sp.

This one is (temporarily) sitting still on my son's hand in the Lännaskogen nature reserve on a recent visit there.

Your eyes tell me how you love me

Can feel it in your heart beat

I know you like what you see

Hold me, I'll give that you need

Wrap your love around me

You're so excited, I can feel you

Getting hotter, oh baby

I'll take you down, I'll take you down

Where no one's ever gone before

And if you want more, if you want more

Jump for my love

Jump in and feel my touch

Jump you want to taste my kisses

In the night then

We’re here visiting strange places.

The world underneath my son’s bed is a weird & wonderful prehistoric place.

Don’t loiter first long or you’ll be lunch.

During a recent gastric intestinal, counting the floor tiles, (24 or so) episode, my son put this in the bathroom for me. I have recreated the scene for your enjoyment.

As a side note, it is cold and flu season, please wash your hands, unless you to want to count floor tiles in your bathroom. Have a good week. B

Away for a week on our first trip for nearly two years, to Sao Paulo (SP) to celebrate youngest son's birthday with him and all SP family. Brought back some big city photos that will process and post. This one is rushed for the FF weekly challenge.

My son's friend brought his puppy by the other day. He (Kane) and Matix had so much fun playing together. You should have seen the sad puppy dog faces when Kane had to go home! :o)

It used to be my son's beanbag but the cat has stolen it. He is super toasty anyway (Orientals do not have much hair so lose a lot of heat) but the beanbag traps and radiates it back.

Shot for Looking Close on Friday, theme "Selfie in Reflection".

Happy Friday everybody

I spotted this rather unique 600 from the bus last week and made a point of looking for it today on my way to the Selkirk show. By chance a neighbour started speaking to me, and then the Rover's owner (well it's actually his son's car) appeared and we got talking. We believe that this is the only 600 Centenary in existence today - it was basically a dealer special, to mark 100 years of Prosser's of Glasgow. Any L-reg 600 would be interesting, but this is just off the scale. I made my interest in the car clear, and it is up for sale if anyone is genuinely interested - if I had the money and space I would not hesitate for a second.
