Solving polynomials The first step is to apply the Rational Roots Test to the polynomial to get a list of values that might possibly be solutions to the polynomial equation. You can follow this up with an application of Descartes' Rule of Signs, if you like, to narrow down which possible zeroes might be best to check. Of course, if you've got a graphing calculator, it's a good idea to do a quick graph, since x-intercepts of the graph are the same as zeroes of the equation. Seeing where the graph looks like it crosses the axis can quickly narrow down your list of possible zeroes.

According to this "Woodwards" documentary, the Downtown Eastside is 90% single male! The way to solve the imbalance? Make the area habitable for women and children; when women are comfortable living in the area, the neighbourhood will immediately improve.

The Chicago street artist known as SOLVE (Brendan Scanlon) was murdered June 14, 2008. These are some pictures I took of his artwork, mostly around Uptown and Lake View, in 2006. I had no idea who he was, but I kept seeing his work around the area and always found it intriguing.

We think that, like the others, this might be a street in the Falkirk area. The picture was taken about 1982. There is a sign halfway down the left-hand side of the street for Edmonds Posting & Livery Stables. Does anyone know where this used to be?

Let us know in the comments box below if you can tell us the name of this street.

Dude, the only way to win is not to play. The only way for me to win, at least.

The Cube’s not about a bunch of rules and prohibitions and restrictions, man. It’s not about following orders from some fascist instruction manual that always wants to see your papers. It’s about freedom. It’s about creativity. It’s about finding your own path to that beautiful harmony of colored squares. And if you don’t get there, well, that’s fine, too, man. Whatever happens is meant to be, you know?

Anyway, that’s how I see it. And that’s how I live my life. Why am I telling you this? I just think it’s important that you know a little about me before I do something as intimate as performing surgery on your heart. Now, just relax and let the anesthesia put you to sleep…

A number which satisfies the given equation is called a solution or root of that. ‘Satisfying the equation’ means that if the variable (literal) involved in this is replaced by the number, then both sides of that become equal. The process of finding the particular value of the variable (literal) which makes both sides of the solve the equation equal is called solving the equation. Below are rules that need to be followed in solving equations.
