I got an email today from the folks at Noiseware, which was a bit of a surprise. It seems that they read my blog post about Noise Reduction software, and wanted to let me know about the new version of the Noiseware Photoshop plug-in (they moved from 3.5.1 to 4.0). They wanted me to try it out and let them know what I thought. Of course, I was happy to do so.
This is a QUICK test of the plug-in. I did nothing to this except use the defaults. I'll try to go more in depth, but this was a quick hit. I have to say that it looks pretty nice. The details were preserved but it did a much better job at removing the background noise - i.e. a lot of the good without any of the detail loss that most programs exhibited. Yes, there is some but there isn't any more than the previous version.
My thought - at first glance, I really like the new plug-in, but I have to put it through the paces before I know for sure if it's worth it*.
Aside from the image quality, two things stand out in the newest plug-in incarnation: 1) it is a LOT quicker - at least twice as fast as the older plug-in, great for large images; 2) there are new tools in the plug-in which I didn't play with for this test. I'll play around and see how they do in the near future.
*If you have already purchased a recent license, you can upgrade for free (at least for now) - so it's definitely worth it in that regard.
