I was never a fan of ringed crossguards on longswords even though they were historical and I prefer them on greatswords. After Lonin club members freely let me handle a few of their Regenyei Tournament Feders, I have to say that these feders are not bad looking in-person.
One obvious functional thing about the side rings is that they might provide extra protection. They do with the warning that their effectiveness is situational as many people online have equally said that they prevented injuries and that they're not relevant in preventing the injuries they sustained.
Using the feder bare-handed the ring could be abrasive when thumbing of fingering the blade. What I did like was that the black cord wrap used on the grip is no longer slippery like some of the earlier Regenyei feders. Non-black cord wrap grips such as my feder have an almost cloth-like texture that may require application of bees wax to prevent fiber tears during prolong use.
There's an overall weight increase but since the rings are close to the hand and behind the federschwert's center of gravity the blade is still relatively lively, possibly even more so once the weight has gotten used to. I was able to do one and two-handed moulinettes with little issues barehanded and wearing light leather fencing gloves.
I didn't try it with my SPES Heavy gloves which are lobster-style gauntlets with a hooved liner but had issues doing the moulinettes with my non-ring standard feder. Choking down and loosening the grip during rotation with the hand closest to the guard are the solutions with such beefy hand protection. The side rings didn't prevent going into or transitioning through any of the Italian or German guards that I know of.
For people who are considering this as their first feder my personal opinion is to try doing drills with it and compare with other feders. When sparring or performing hand strikes with increased intensity during drills good hand protection are going to be worn anyway so the protection offered by the side rings shouldn't be the number one deciding factor. I'm sure that the rings like almost anything else can create training artifacts but my time with these feders are brief.
As I found with my synthetic montante besides the slightly extra maintenance required by the side rings, an extra few inches of consideration for the rings should be given when looking for a softcase as they can effectively shorten the case dimensions by pushing material out and away from the edges.
The Regenyei Tournament Feder is a good fit for people looking to have a heavier feder without compromising the liveliness of the blade, an interesting and relatively unique crossguard design, and the extra hand protection even if situational would be welcomed.

I had some experience sparring against and with longswords that had side ring crossguards. Now this is from a modern hobbyist perspective, people who actually had to rely on them for protection in the past may have very different opinions.
Beginning with safety the amount of additional protection varies depending on the gloves worn and hand and finger position. From what people told me in tournaments they are protective against cuts but do little against thrusts.
When a sword with a ringed crossguard falls to the ground during grappling or a disarm it can become a safety issue with fighters falling on the rings where a standard cruciform longsword’s hazard usually ends once it becomes flat with the ground.
Side rings affect techniques and longswords with them are noticeably heavier. Fortunately since the additional weight is close to the hand it’s easy to get used to. It has slightly slower speed and inertia and the extra mass can give better control in a bind.
They limit wrist movement especially while wearing lobster mittens. One-handed moulinettes, two handed-winding, if hand protection has flaring wrist guards the rings can catch during a Zwerchau, and they get in the way more as angles deviate from the horizontal.
Side rings not flush with the grip makes thumbing the blade either impossible by blocking the thumb, makes them less effective because the longitudinal and profile height adds distance to the blade, or if not well designed the edges on that height can scrape gloves or skin.
During grappling rings have a greater tendency to get entangled with clothing and gear but depending on how the sword is balanced the weight close to the hand can make them easier to control the point.
The rings gives opponents more opportunities to grab for a disarm. I’ve seen exchanges when both fighter’s sword blades, one ringed and the other not, get stuck with each other while fighting for initiative.
The part of an opponent closest is the thing to hit and that often is the hands. There are many longsword guards placing the hands back while swords with complex hilts such as cupped hilts have more guards that extend in front of the body.
It can create bad habits for longsword and I’ve seen experienced fighters parry more often with the rings while the blade was vertical, allowing an opponent to close distance. It took some time to return to protecting the hands again.
Longswords with side rings are more difficult to transport and wall hang, and depending on what’s being studied they can be ahistorical. *BUT* they do provide additional hand protection that's situational, are unusual to see, and are damn cool looking.
For montantes I think ringed crossguards historically makes more practical sense because of the increased length and differences in angles involved against spears, rapiers, and other montantes, and it’s what I preferred for my montante trainer.
If they can be used safely and motivates someone who is experienced to continue to be active then it’s all good.
For beginners my recommendation is to avoid side rings and start with a standard cruciform federschwert that won’t impede movement while learning techniques and good habits for protecting the hands.
