The Smooth-Billed Ani ... a memeber of the Cuckoo family

(yeah, kinda like me)... is found in the Caribbean

and South America but still occasionally seen here in South Florida.

Though they thrive outside of the U.S., their numbers have continued to decline over the years here; and they

have been labeled "a rarity" in SoFla in recent years.

Fortunately, this year there is a nesting pair at my "home-away-from-home" ... my favorite local marsh / Nature area

where I first began taking Nature photos a few years ago.

Happy Weekend to everyone !

Not the best at 7:30 in the morning... oh well...

... I'm running late this a.m., and if I skip another day's post then I'll be looking over my shoulder all day for some search & rescue team !! So with this photo : take it or leave it ! lol

They are cool to see. If you haven't seen them then come on down to SoFla for the AC's 3 Stooges Owl And Nature Photo Tour ... where we get Barn Owls, Barred Owls, Burrowing Owls, Great Horned Owls, & Screech Owls!! ;-P ( Roadkill served fresh for your dining pleasure!)

Time to go look for them again :-)

Before I continue to share the rest of my photos from my SOFLA trip I wanted to share this shot of a mural in LA memorializing Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

I was in Florida on the anniversary of Kobe and his daughters tragic death which was already two years ago, January 26th 2020.

Although I did not know Kobe personally, like many others I watched him play his heart out for his entire career and was hurt by his death. I cried a few times during that week, it was heartbreaking to say the least. It was during that moment, which felt like to me, the beginning of the end of the world as we knew it. Soon after his death the pandemic hit and changed the entire world's definition of "new normal"

Kobe was a student of the game, an assassin with a basketball, a stand-up man, a teacher on and off the court, a legend in the game and in his personal life. His daughter Gianna was young, beautiful and a super talent on the rise following in her father's basketball footsteps. Both gone too early.

Huge RIP to Kobe & Gianna

Back in the days when I was in US, I remember I shot this one with my old Samsung Galaxy SII. It was an extremely hot day, Saturday March 31st 2012. But within 2 hours a thunderstorm and rain came to blow anything away, typical of South Florida :D

been a while since I've seen y-not graffiti... new, or one I've missed? I don't know.

(..Computer & I'net issues today, so here's another B&W Warbler that I posted but didn't make public until now... )

.

Thanks, Hurricane Sandy : Windy, rainy, continued tropical storm warning & flooding ...

Ah.... all we need now is some snow !! ( Please, Santa, snow for X-mas in SoFla this year !! )

...

** Have a Fantastic Friday and a Wonderful Weekend everyone !! **

Stuart, FL. on portra 400. shot with canon ae-1 and 50mm lens.

Got up at 3:00am and loaded my car for a day's worth of fun. Picked up my buddy Oscar and traveled down to the Everglades hoping to find the beauty of being out in a National Park. The air was cool and almost still, there were hardly any mosquitoes, and that dense fog seems like it moved with the slightest wind that created openings in the morning mist. The sunrise was just amazing!

Most recent shot, probably right before Dose got picked up.

HAVE YOU SEEN ANY ALLIGATORS !!??

lol ... I still find it amusing that even the people living here in Fla (especially those around me here in SoFla along the Everglades ) constantly ask if I've seen any and are "thrilled" at seeing one.

It's completely understandable from someone visiting from a state without them or coming from another country.

It's Florida. It's the Everglades.

We see them without even looking for them. They cross the roads. They slip into backyard pools. They're in community ponds.

I don't usually photograph 'gators unless the lighting is really good on them, I haven't taken many shots of anything else on an outing, or they're "doing something" ... like trying to grab a bite.

On another note, again, for those interested, another person that added me as a contact last night :

yusufkivrim ( yusuf kıvrım )

became a Flickr member this month, has over 8000 contacts in these 2-3 weeks (the latest appear to be strictly added alphabetically) , and has photos having nothing in common with mine... He's now blocked ...

** HAPPY FRIDAY-EVE !! **

Since we don't have mountains around here in SoFla / Everglades, we'll have to make do with a little mound and lower angle... :-)

Delivering the nesting material

As shown on the Weather Channel that day - nice to know that they follow twitter and are prepared to chase up to get permission.

One person away from being at the barricade &I backed out due to the ridiculous crowd. Instead, I went wild in the back &had some fun shooting the lighting &crowd.

I couldn't choose.

Beautiful sunset in SoFla :)

I'm having to look for new areas & subjects to shoot since the time change.

I no longer have 3 hours on the trail after work :-(

... Guess I have to do more sunsets :-)

.

... and may your weekend be full of happiness, fun, & excitement ...

.

We actually might get a break from the 80+ degree weather with temps. around 45-deg. by Sunday.

Personally, I'm hoping for snow flurries here in SoFla; but I'll settle for any temp under 60-deg !

Have a Wonderful Weekend !!!
