American White Pelicans have a severe and dour expression. They suggest unhappy judges approaching their chairs at the bench. They are lovely overall, but here I have treated them heavily to express their almost comically severe demeanor.
~ There's a shadow just behind me,
Shrouding every step I take,
Making every promise empty,
Pointing every finger at me.
Waiting like a stalking butler
Who upon the finger rests.
Murder now the path of "must we"
Just because the son has come. ~

You and I, we're over
Me and you are done
When I wanted to be closer
You just wanted to run
Though I know it's no one's fault
If I've learned anything at all
With us, no matter how I add it up
One plus one is none...

What you tell me keeps me sober and warm
Above my head i see grey clouds
I'm glad you are here, so glad you are here ❤️
This morning I set out with the goal of photographing a marsh harrier. But even before I reached my intended subject, something else completely captivated me: an extraordinary play of light, this soft, translucent morning light at the hunting blind, which made the landscape seem almost unreal.
Although the highway wasn't yet heavily trafficked at that time, stopping seemed too dangerous. So I drove on, taking a detour via a parallel road, just to return to that one moment. Sometimes that's exactly what's worth it.
Finally, I stood at the roadside, right next to the guardrail, camera at the ready, completely absorbed in the interplay of light and shadow. At that instant, a car suddenly roared up, overtaking another at high speed—just a few meters away from me. The gust of wind was so strong that it ripped open my jacket.
For a brief moment, I realized how thin the line was. Had that car hit me, I probably wouldn't have even seen it coming.
An impressive experience – unfortunately also a sobering example of how little consideration there sometimes is on our roads.

This was an unintentional environmental portrait style shot that I took while on an early morning trip up at Dunluce Castle at the weekend. I'd recently watched a youtube video featuring this castle and thought I might give it a bash. He looks like he's carrying the weight of the world!

::: Say You Won't Let Go - James Arthur :::
I met you in the dark, you lit me up
You made me feel as though I was enough
We danced the night away, we drank too much
I held your hair back when
You were throwing up
Then you smiled over your shoulder
For a minute, I was stone-cold sober
I pulled you closer to my chest
And you asked me to stay over
I said, "I already told ya
I think that you should get some rest"
I knew I loved you then
But you'd never know
'Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go
I know I needed you
But I never showed
But I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
I'll wake you up with some breakfast in bed
I'll bring you coffee with a kiss on your head
And I'll take the kids to school
Wave them goodbye
And I'll thank my lucky stars for that night
When you looked over your shoulder
For a minute, I forget that I'm older
I wanna dance with you right now
Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that everyday you'll get better
You make me feel this way somehow
I'm so in love with you
And I hope you know
Darling, your love is more than worth its weight in gold
We've come so far, my dear
Look how we've grown
And I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
I wanna live with you
Even when we're ghosts
'Cause you were always there for me when I needed you most
I'm gonna love you 'til
My lungs give out
I promise 'til death we part like in our vows
So I wrote this song for you, now everybody knows
That it's just you and me 'til we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
Oh, just say you won't let go
Last year, Japan experienced a series of major earthquakes and airplane accidents over the New Year period.
Then, at the end of the year, I was informed that the wife of my best friend since the first grade of elementary school, who shares the same birthday as me, has stage 4 lymphoma, and I continue to feel anxious even after the New Year.
Furthermore, the effects of climate change are becoming more and more noticeable, and as a member of the generation that caused it, this New Year is a sobering time for me.
Thank you so much for "on Explore".
I made my "on Explore" album.

I don’t remember the exact date but remember it was two years ago near the last week of February that I decided to quit drinking alcohol.
Quitting wasn’t the hardest part.
'Admitting' to yourself that you’re an addict was.
Parties weren’t my thing so there’s not too many crazy stories.
I drank alone all night to escape my life.
But something clicked and realized that if you don’t quit now, quitting will be even harder and require more external help, health issues would arise and lots of money would need to be spent.
There’s a lot more thoughts that I could say regarding my journey. I remember those days of being trapped in that infinite loop. But the reasons it’s been relatively easy to stay sober is cause I don’t talk or think about it too much. The same way you don’t talk about your ex-partner once you’ve broken up. The more you talk about her, the more you want to try and get back together.
The only thing I think about is trying to find the next best image that I can capture. Quitting drinking has allowed me to stay out longer and feel sharper than ever.
JOIN ME on my Five Day Northern Lights Iceland Workshop
15th - 20th October 2020

I am finally home from an absolutely magical sixteen days in Iceland. I was shooting solo for the first eight days followed by leading a workshop for eight wonderful clients the remaining eight days with my good friend and award winning landscape photographer Tony Higginson.
This image of the hugely photogenic triangular emergency shelter in Iceland was photographed on my first night in Iceland. I had just captured an inspiring shot of the nearby iconic black and white Budir Church when I decided to make a detour en-route back to the guesthouse at midnight to this location.
It is located high up on a mountain pass which is affected by much heavier snowfall than the surrounding roads. Sadly I managed to ditch the car in a snowbank when parking up which rendered me immobile for nine hours until the recovery vehicle arrived meaning that I had a rather uncomfortable night in the car until 9am. The temperature was -11 and I can vouch that it was extremely cold. I ran the engine continuously from 3am onwards to keep me from freezing, literally. A vehicle did not pass me between 12.30am and 7am, this place is pretty remote.
Still, the things we do for our art. I will confess that the sunrise was lovely but it was the aurora that once again took my breath away. Standing on your own on top of a mountain pass with a volcano looming large over you in the dark is a sobering experience but one to be savoured. Mind you, I was less enthusiastic about hearing what I thought were footprints in the snow behind me prompting me to spin around with my head torch feverishly scanning the landscape for signs of life, be it human or animal. Nothing could be found but it certainly keeps you on your toes that's for sure.
Anyhow, I have so many many more photos to share with you over the coming fortnight but for now, I must finish my Powerpoint presentation that I will be delivering tomorrow morning at 11am on the Fotospeed paper stand at The Photography Show. Come along and heckle if you wish, I'm sure that you will not be alone.
Have a great Friday everyone

Even in a wood landscape dancing of new life, one can find these places, where trees stand together as endangered species. If only mankind knew more about the value of trees.
Mankind is a big danger for trees, because trees are not understood. It is the economic value of wood that pushes the understanding out of focus and stimulates the ongoing destruction.
