Some birds are hard to catch. I once described the effort it took me to photograph a little grebe (flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/51853338632/in/dateposted/). The same can be said about the smew.
I often have seen them, although they are not very common, but when they see me they often flee away ASAP.
Here I just caught him in time, because I took this image from a bird observatory hut, but he already had heard me stumbling in (clumsy me), so he was on his way to the exit.
It means I still have to wait for the perfect shot, but I like the setting. To exaggerate it a bit, I have got away with the light blue reflections from the sky on the water, and so make it more explicit.

She is patronized by the air element,
She composes fairy tales and poems.
In the morning it flutters smoothly over the meadows,
Bird–like origami,
And in the morning he comes down to our garden,
He eats dew and grapes for dinner.
Then he goes to sleep in a flower bud –
Flowers and herbs divine priestess,
And she probably has colored dreams,
In which butterflies, grasshoppers frolic.
And in the morning she flies back to the fields,
And both heaven and earth are glad to her,
And so lovely is the slender goddess,
She is a heroine of ancient legends.
In the circle of sisters, sylphs, flower fairies,
He sings divinely, as Orpheus himself would sing.
And the world of earth and heaven heed her,
And all the flowers sing along to that song..
Skaftafell with snow and ashes still from Eyjafjallajokull's eruption two years ago. To see them mixing was a strange sight.

On the cold and snowy morning of December 5th 2020, I was somewhat lost on exploration of Pan Am territory in and around Gardner. After many long minutes of freezing my fingers off at Parker Street, this eastbound finally popped around the bend as snowfall started to step up as well. The weather gave the otherwise bland shot of MEC 7595 quite the holiday spirit!
