I have been trying to photograph the snowflakes flowering in my garden. On Monday I decided to photograph a group of three but didn't like the composition. Tuesday I tried again with the same three flowers and tilted the camera more to give me a new composition, I got some images I liked but I still wasn't happy. This morning I had one more attempt and finally settled on this image.
Macro shot of snowflakes on a hard sheet of clear plastic suspended over a black background on a table on my porch during snowfall in Toronto, using an LED camping light for illumination. Extension tubes (68mm) with an old 28-70mm lens gave me a magnification of around 1.3x at 52mm.

We are getting our first big snowstorm of the winter so I tried my hand at snowflake macro photography, again. I followed this one down from the sky and as soon as it landed it started to melt.
Sorry for the absence from Flickr. I caught covid over the holidays and now we are having lingering health issues with certain family members.

This morning snowflakes began to fall. They are so incredible and delicate. This one is tiny! According to the Guinness Book of World Records the largest snowflake recorded was 15 inches across and fell from the sky in 1887 in Fort Keogh, Montana. I'll have to keep snapping photos over the winter....maybe I can find one that is a bit larger than this one, maybe even a record breaker! :-)
