After years of battling the filthy French, who never wash their hands, especially when going between handling money and food, I wanted to register this "historic" moment where I was back in a culture where people pay attention to hygiene.
So I am at the airport in Brazil and I check out this smoothie outlet. The combination with honey, papaya, milk and I don't know what else sounds delicious. There's this guy in yellow at the cashier and I see another person in the area behind the window, who I assume is the cook. OK, one person to handle the money, the other to prepare the stuff. So I order my drink. And to my dismay the same guy who is at the cashier, who you see in the photo, immediately heads over to the mixer area to prepare my drink. Oh no, here we go. But what does he do next? He washes his hand - like civilized people do! Because he is going to prepare food.
Thank you Jesus.
Then I tell myself, I have to get a photo to record this lovely moment. I step back to take a photo and the guy who was busy preparing the drink realizes I am taking a photo, so he turns around, does the thumb up sign and breaks into this big smile. So cute.
If it were the French, the guy would have probably swore or grumbled, or been a jerk, aside from already having put his filthy, grubby hands - that he never washes after handling money - on the fruits of my drink. Which means that I would have never ordered it in the first place.
Different every day, but these are the ingredients for this day.

I've joined the "Green Smoothie Junkies" that seem to be spreading everywhere. I'm drinking one of these puppies every morning and I've noticed it gives me A LOT of energy. And despite it's icky look, it doesn't taste like garbage. This one is made with
1 small banana
1 cup skim milk
1 T. peanut butter
1 t. cocoa power
flax seeds
lots of ice
as much spinach as I could stuff in the blender (about 2 or 3 cups?)
You can't taste the spinach and the protein keeps me going ALL MORNING.
