Tropical Smoothie Café (1,273 square feet)
12300 Jefferson Avenue, Suite 738, Patrick Henry Mall, Newport News, VA
This location opened in fall 2010 and was renovated in the mid 2010s; it was previously a Starbucks Coffee, which opened in 2006 and closed on December 30th, 2008. It became Bistro 6160 in 2009, which closed in summer 2010.
Today I went to Fred Meyer with my brother and I made up a smoothie. It turned out pretty good! Inspired by Shay Carl Butler's "Shayloss" campaign. Not that I'm truly eating healthy, I just thought it looked tasty. Who knows, maybe I will start creating more nutritious concoctions in the future.

Steve Kuhnau, founder of Smoothie King, is sometimes credited with the creation of the Smoothie. Working as a soda jerker in his teenage years, Kuhnau found himself unable to digest the very malts, shakes, and floats he was preparing, due to a lactose intolerance. Consequently, he formulated the world's first nutritional smoothie in his kitchen, to serve as a healthier, dairy-free alternative to popular ice cream based drinks of the era. His novel drink idea, a blend of fresh fruit coupled with vitamin and protein additives, proved also to be efficacious in treating his allergies and stabilizing his blood-sugar level. This creation was the impetus for an industry: shortly after his first store opened in Kenner, Louisiana 1973, stores began to appear all over the New Orleans Metropolitan area, and subsequently in Washington, D.C. and 32 other contiguous United States. Kuhnau began to franchise the Smoothie King name and business in 1989.

Nearing the end, well technical we have already completed this challenge we started a week prior, I can feel my gut getting smaller. I have noticed other things like having more energy, generally feeling more active. Now, it is not just the smoothie, as lately we have been eating a lot less junk, as you may know last the last 2 months were months of Gluttony as we played hotel to many many people.
You know how people see this one thing on tv and have try it. There was one day where we had 3 desserts, 2 types of waffles and a coffee bun. Yea try doing that for many days in a row see how much energy you have.
So what I am saying is I am potentially seeing a placebo effect as we have cut down on the high sugar foods, while the same time we started drinking this guy every morning. So you can see where the extra energy may come from.
Beside my drink is the little ones drink, lately he has been pretty good and drinking 3 cups of this a day, not bad if you ask me after all hydration is important, even if he fills up more diapers in the day!
It's smoothie season so I've prepped up a load of fruit ready for the freezer which will eventually be blended up into smoothies.
My favourite recipe: Strawberries, Pineapple and Blueberries, plus apple juice and a bit of low fat natural yoghurt.
Yum!
A tasty alternative to fruit bars for brekky. Sweet, fruity, and packed with fibre, this is one of the best smoothies I have made.
Spinach Smoothie:
- One bunch of fresh spinach (de-stemed;thoroughly rinsed)
- One medium Hass avocado (as ripe as you can stand it)
- One Granny Smith apple (as yellow as possible;cored, keep the skin for vitamins)
- One Bosc pear (soft to the touch; cored, keep the skin for vitamins)
- One Persian lime or two Key limes (the juice is needed)
- One pint of either natural vanilla ice cream or vanilla yogurt (homemade is best, the fewer preservatives the better).
1. Using a food processor or shake blender, whiz the spinach first. Then add the ingredients.

The Flickr Lounge-Good Morning
I always start my mornings with a look at Flickr and a Healthy Smoothie. The lady in the photo is Pat, my neighbour. She lives behind me and has 3 acres of lawn to mow, good thing she's got this big machine to help her out.
