The setting sun is shing on a sea of golden and ripe corn, while around me the birds are singing and the bees (and unfortunately the mosquitos too) are buzzing. This is a summer evening at its best. While I'm looking at the photograph, I still can smell this typical fragrance of this scenery, intense and warm and soft. Unfortunately I'm not able to capture the sound or he smell in a photo, so take Your time and try to imagine.
Die untergehende Sonne bescheint ein reifes und goldenes Getreidefeld während um mich herum die Vögel singen und die Bienen (leider auch die Mücken) summen. Das ist ein Sommerabend, wie ich ihn mir vorstelle. Während ich mir das Bild betrachte, kann ich noch den typischen Duft dieser Szene riechen, satt und warm und weich. Leider ist es mir unmöglich den Klang oder den Geruch im Foto festzuhalten, also nehmt Euch die Zeit und versucht es Euch vorzustellen.

Terrestrial Gartersnake. Snakes actually smell with their tongues. They flick the tongue out and pick up particles in the air. When they retract the tongue back into their mouths, the particles are detected by what is know as the Jacobson's organ on the roof of their mouths. Inspired by the theme of #smell for MacroMondays. I think I can smell this. I lost my sense of smell when my horse threw me when I was 13. Two too many concussions and a skull fracture later, I can now detect some aromas, but not sure if accurate.

My first try at growing these beautiful Crocosmia flowers from corms given to me by a neighbourhood Community Gardener.
The abundant eye-catching, brillliantly red, tubular [hummimgbird attracting] flowers appear in midsummer atop bold, slightly arching, sparsely branched 3-foot-tall stems. Crocosmia's mid-green leaves are pleated and swordlike. www.finegardening.com/plant/crocosmia-lucifer
Noteworthy Characteristics
Crocosmia is a genus of about 7 species of cormous plants from grasslands in South Africa. [...].
Genus name comes from the Greek words krokos meaning saffron and osme meaning a smell for the smell of dried flowers steeped in warm water.
'Lucifer' is an Alan Bloom hybrid (Crocosmia x Curtonus) which has flowers and foliage that are similar to gladiolus.
