SmartBike is a bike sharing programme to complement the future provision of cycle tracks in the park within the West Kowloon Cultural District for recreational and leisure uses, and to encourage visitors to use bicycles as a sustainable commuting mode within the District in future. Milano Centrale is the main railway station of Milan, and one of the main railway stations in Europe. The station is a railway terminus and was officially inaugurated in 1931 to replace the old central station (1864), which was a transit station and could not handle the new traffic caused by the opening of the Simplon tunnel in 1906. The station has 24 tracks. Every day about 320,000 passengers pass through the station using about 500 trains, for an annual total of 120 million passengers. en.wikipedia.org

Netherlands, Rotterdam, bus terminal at the Zalmstraat (near the Spido sightseeing boat take-off and the Erasmusbrug).
It is amazing what nice things you can do with spots that are installed in the street. I was taking another picture (coming soon) and looked back to see my new Swedish-made bike projected against the bus stop divider wall.
I shall be using this bike to transport my photo gear around town during the summer festivals. The ladder that I used to take the Rotterdam Marathon shots fits just right on the large front rack of this Kronan Kargo.
BTW, this is another Autostich-project. I combined 6 photos this time to get this wide angle. The bike looks a bit stretched by the fish-eye effect. It is actually only 20 cm (8") longer than a regular bike.

Milan (Milano) is the second-largest city in Italy and the capital of Lombardy. The city proper has a population of about 1.35 million, while its urban area is the 5th largest in the EU and the largest in Italy with an estimated population of about 5.2 million.
The massive suburban sprawl that followed the post-war boom of the 1950s–60s and the growth of a vast commuter belt, suggest that socioeconomic linkages have expanded well beyond the boundaries of its administrative limits and its agglomeration, creating a metropolitan area of 7-9 million people. According to eurostat the Milan metropolitan area contains a population of 8,071,271 people in 2011.
Milan is located in the north-western section of the Po Valley, approximately halfway between the river Po to the south and the foothills of the Alps with the great lakes (Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano) to the north, the Ticino river to the west and the Adda to the east. The city's land is flat, the highest point being at 122 m (400.26 ft) above sea level. Source: en.wikipedia.org

"To increase use of 50 miles of bike lanes in Washington, D.C., the District Department of Transportation began operations of Capital Bikeshare, the largest regional bike sharing system in the United States with 1,100 bikes at more than 100 stations in the District and Arlington. Ridership on CaBi, even in the winter months, continues to grow and there are plans to add 20 stations and 200 more bikes in the next year. The sleek new system succeeds the capital’s pilot Smartbike program, which will cease operations as of January 3."

Clear Channel's SmartBike program has officially started, but before you cheer, realize its not for you. With dork bikes not even a tween would touch, and no provisions for helmets or locks, this is not a system designed for success. This is a opening day photo op followed one lone frequent user: Pee Wee Herman.
