My knowledge of botany is pretty fuzzy!
We hadn't been here in years. Much improved! Of course, now they charge admission. And a separate charge for parking! Grr.
Pt Sierra Nevada in far background. Lovely cloudy-bright day, perfect for flower photography. Almost no wind! The rectangular sea-cave (left center) is new this year.
This cliff-face represents a perfect geological history of this part of the coast. The youngest gravels (on top) are from the recent Ice Ages. The older, layered gravels rest on the dark bedrock of the Franciscan Complex, all ultimately altered basalt. A quick refresher: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franciscan_Complex
The geomorphology of this retreating bluff-face is pretty cool too. Life is persistent, even when those poor plants are headed for a salt-water death in the next wet winter!

I frequently see these fast moving little birds, but rarely do I get to see one with its Ruby Crown visible.
With wide eyes and furry bodies, these slow-moving, pint-sized primates look like cuddly stuffed animals. But their venom-filled bites can rot flesh and cause anaphylactic shock in humans

I'm more used to seeing Ground Squirrels.

Sicily goes so fast I had to slow things down to see her do her thing... in this case, jumping over 2 4x4's. It took several takes to get this video... she cheated on a few tries and ran around rather than over the wood.

Today's story and sketch "by me" I have traveled to "SLO", San Luis Obispo to meet three exchange student brothers, Galago, Strepi, and Haplor who are attending their seventeenth year here at Cal Poly's horticulture department studying growing big bananas for moon pies, the brothers don't seem in any rush to graduate, and return home to their home planet Catarrrhine. In fact the brothers are never in a hurry, the brothers are all over eighty, which on the Planet Catarrrhine they are considered youths, maturity is considered reaching three hundred years of age. I have caught up with the boys who cut classes and are in Galago's fourty Chevy pick up, meeting their girlfriends here in Avila Beach, which will have to be a story for another time, until then taa ta the Rod Blog.

This and the previous are from the same amazing little road, winding five miles above my town and above the ocean 1o miles away. Called TV Tower Rd. for, you guessed it, the TV satellites and such that crown the hills behind, it has some of the most spectacular views in the area, as well as some killer mountain biking.
