Small Easter-tailed Blue butterfly taking nectar from a tiny field Daisy.

 

Common. Easy to overlook. This butterfly is about the size of your little fingernail.

This bull elk was munching on some willow branches. The day before he was digging through the snow for some grass. I imagine it is pretty slim pickings this far into winter.

During the frigid cold this winter, the ground was packed with a thick layer of ice and there was not much on the menu for this buck.

Lots of deer tracks this time of year. Looking for anything edible. Not much for them.

A couple of years ago, this eucalyptus tree and several others were trimmed way back. We could see the sky again.

 

Now, almost two years later, they are back, big and bushy, though not as tall, and providing shade again.

 

While that's nice and all, I just like this shot.

Sometimes less is more but I'm pretty sure spiders would struggle with that concept! It's tough out there at this time of year but I'm glad that somehow they find a way to survive.

A whole hour of searching the fields around Winchester and found 6 poppies. Poppy fields must be on the endangered list.
