I bought this little sled years ago - I think it is pretty unique. The handles fold down to go in front of the child as it grows and no longer needs a push. All of our snow is finally gone, i made this shot last week. We have had lots of rain and warmer temps for the last few days. Hope all of you out there have a wonderful Wednesday!
Sled dog team at Speed Dog Race, Plateau de Retord, Cuvéry, Ain, France
A race organized by the FFST, the federation that brings together mushers with all kinds of dogs, purebred, Nordic type, hunting dogs or cross dogs such as Alaskans.
The main one is their ability to run fast.
Ski Joëring with two siberian Huskies at the Polar Adventure : Méaudre, Isere, France
Ski Joëring or Skijoring is a sport in which one to two dogs assist a cross-country skier.
The cross-country skier provides power with skis and poles, and the dog adds additional power by running and pulling.
For more than 25 years, an international dog sled race has been taking place in the wilderness of Plateau de Retord. Many mushers love this site to train their teams throughout the winter.

Team of two Samoyeds at Conta Musher Race: Les Contamines-Montjoie, Haute-Savoie, France.
Samoyeds are descended from the Nenets herding laika, a spitz-type dog from Siberia with a thick, white, double-layer coat used for sledding, herding, guarding, and keeping their owners warm.
It takes its name from the Samoyedic peoples of Siberia. These nomadic reindeer herders bred the fluffy white dogs to help with the herding.
Its expression is animated, with the characteristic "Samoyed smile" created by the upturned corners of its mouth.
Not many of the races, Samoyeds may not be as fast as the other Nordic sled dog teams but they can be competitive and so pretty!

This sport takes back ancestral traditions which allowed the Inuits to survive in the big Arctic deserts and represent the link with the nature.
Fast, exciting, well trained sled dog teams are the result of careful behind the scenes planning and hard work. Successful mushers are knowledgeable in such diverse areas as kennel management, canine behavior, nutrition, veterinary care, psychology, physical conditioning, housing and transportation. Wise mushers soon learn that success or failure in any of these areas affects performance dramatically. Considering this fact it is obvious that the welfare of the dogs is of paramount importance.
Team and driver develop a close, trusting relationship because of the amount of time they spend together. To betray that trust by not meeting all of the dog’s needs runs counter to the goal of having a happy, healthy, highly motivated team.
What you see at a race is the result of long hours of work and planning to ensure that the team is prepared to test its abilities against the trail and the competition.
Siberian Huskies at the Polar Adventure : Méaudre, Isère, France
A race organized by the FFPTC, only teams of Nordic breeds (Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed and Greenland Dog) with CFI recognized standards are allowed to compete or Nordic type dogs with special agreement.
Huskie-type. Introduced from Siberia about 1000 years ago by Thule people. Pull heavy sleds over long distances. Live outdoors in the Arctic, their preferred environment. We saw them enjoying whole raw halibut.
Increased mechanisation and climate warming endanger the Greenlandic sledding culture.

The sled dog racing is subdivided into several categories according to the number of dogs harnessed and in three subcategories according to the breed of dogs harnessed.
Indeed, the faster Siberian Husky compete in a separate category, the other three breeds : Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed and Greenland dog run in the same category, while the so-called "Nordic type" dogs participate in their own category.

Trina has a sled and stumbles,
Trina has a trapeze and cheats
Trina does not cheat on a sled,
don't even trip over a trapeze
Also, Trina does not trill on a sled or on a trapeze
If trill trill his trills would trill mischievous
tripping trapeze and tripping sled.

A sled would be useful during the winter in Bodie, CA, as long as one also had a horse or mule to pull it. The California Parks Department has this to say about winter in Bodie:
"Bodie is located at an elevation of 8,375 feet. Winter weather conditions can change rapidly. Day time temperatures can reach into the 60's and by sundown drop below zero. During years with normal snowfall you may find 3'-6' of snow on the flat, and drifts up to 20' high. Temperatures from 0 to 25 below zero are not uncommon on a calm night. Wind chill factors can drop temperatures to 50 to 60 degrees below zero."
Don't think I want to visit Bodie during the winter, sled or no sled!
