In 1973 this military version of the Douglas DC3 (C47 Skymaster) ran out of fuel and crashed on the south coast of Iceland. All crew members survived the "hard landing".

Between the storm clouds and the sea. 🌅 There is a brief window during the golden hour when the world feels completely still, and the light does all the talking. I love the way the orange sky highlights the silhouette of the coast against the deep blues of the incoming tide. Taken last September but unpublished. No Ai.

the Cessna 337 that I fly...the main landing gear retraction cycle is fun to watch...dangly gangly, sometimes non symmetric...and does take a while too..!!
Paris-Le Bourget, August 1975. This aircraft now stands as a memorial to the Berlin Airlift at the former Rhein-Main Air Base, Frankfurt, painted into appropriate USAF markings. Note the oversized cargo door, fitted by the previous owners, Balair. This made it particularly useful for the transport of racehorses, something that Aer Turas did regularly.
Just visible in the distance at left is Concorde 001, F-WTSS, which had been retired in 1973 and was earmarked for the Musée de l'Air at LBG.
