Sometimes I see potential in a photo for these effects. Sometimes I just go willy nilly and see what happens. Sometimes I just put the photo in the trash and start over.

This is done using a layer mask and blur effect in Photoshop Elements.

Trees in winter

With the arrival of winter, and often at the end of autumn, a new problem arises with trees. This specific "winter" problem is associated with the accumulation of wet snow and the formation of frost on the branches and trunks of trees. "Freezing rains" - phenomena occur under certain combinations of weather conditions: sleet, wind, fog, sudden changes in temperature with a "transition through 0 degrees". Such a significant load on the branches and trunks of trees can lead to emergency situations:

1. Breaking off and collapse of large branches. Typical for poplar, aspen, willow, linden, oak. To a lesser extent for pines and elms.

2. Breaking the forks of co-dominant trunks. Most often found in the above tree species with V-shaped forks. Less typical for U-shaped forks of birch and spruce.

3. Bending under the weight of snow and ice, with possible breaking of the trunks of inclined trees.

I found the trees without obvious problems :)

J'aime bien le regard des hérons, qui reste toujours inexpressif quelle que soit la situation. Il maitrise ses émotions !

I like the look of herons, which always remains expressionless whatever the situation. He controls his emotions !

In her work, Laura Belém recontextualizes objects from daily life, completely changing their meaning, renovating their situation and, moreover, the viewer’s perception of them. Thus, in a work like Enamorados [In Love], presented at the 51st Bienal de Veneza, two small boats seem to chatting with each other. The resource used is a simple one: Belém installed the boats front to front, and placed a spotlight on each of their bows. These lights turn on and off, sometimes coinciding, sometimes disagreeing with each other, thereby establishing the sensation of dialogue and, consequently, resulting in the personification of the boats.

City of São Paulo records the hottest month of July in almost 40 years in the NEW winter of the southern hemisphere.

Average maximum temperatures recorded from July 1st until yesterday were 25.9ºC / 78.8ºF. 😮😭

During the winter the temperature in Bariloche is around 3 degrees Celsius, reaching 8 degrees in the hottest times of the day and -4 degrees at dawn, reaching a thermal sensation of up to -16 degrees C in more extreme situations.

In July of that year, a terrible cold front coming from Antarctica lowered the temperature to -25 degrees for a few days.

Luckily I was not there yet :)))

Two trams again - this is a similar traffic situation as in the previous upload, just a different point of view.

The background tram is coming out of the Arnulfstraße, entering the Bahnhofsplatz square; while the foreground tram comes out of Prielmayerstraße from the Stachus square, entering the Dachauer Straße.

Single exposure, no "tricks" used.

The rain was very close , but so was the sun that was to follow, so just turn your back, and wait for the show to start. What a situation is an old reggae track by Slim Smith, and is fine as i always seem to relish situations like these.

Sometimes I don't feel strong at all, my day is exhausting... but I still want to look pretty in SL and keep working on my photos ♥

During the holidays, Peter and Oleg visited some castles in Luxembourg. Peter (Prince Peter) is still looking for a castle for his sweet princess Rosie. www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/ In the castle of Beaufort they also visited the torture chamber.

PETER:

Oleg?? That thing I'm sitting on won't turn around anymore

I can't go up and I can't go down.

What should I do now?

OLEG:

Sit still...give me your left paw and I'll pull you up

And so it happened

Peter and Oleg survived the torture chamber

... riot like situation during the protests against the presidential election last Friday. This shot was taken right after a car was set on fire ... I've been off Flickr for a bit. The last few days have been intense, photographing the protests around the inauguration, and then the incredible women's march on DC for a photo book. You can look up the information on:

I was walking Bobby a few nights ago and coming past this second hand car sales garage "Autohaus", between the overhead display panels and the metal fence was a huge web and in the centre there she was, the web glistening under the floodlight, I couldn't get home fast enough to get my machine and get back up there. I took about a 130 shots and this silhouette was one of the best that came out.

I dusted of the Tamron 70-200mm due to the height of the location plus the Tamron is great for blowing out backgrounds. Having an immediate and localised light source is a blessing when shooting these girls, usually I go to my usual canal side location thanks to the amber coloured over head strobe lights, but this was a way different situation and I was grateful for the change in scenery.

Friday tomorrow and I hope everyone's had a great week, so as always thank you! :)

PS: Zoom in ;)

Dokra making Process:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB6-wQ23xu0

Dhokra or Dokra art is non–ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still used. One of the earliest known lost wax artefacts is the dancing girl of Mohenjo-daro

From the heart of West Bengal comes an art so eternal, it is cast in the absoluteness of metal. An ancient method of making metal artefacts, Dhokra art goes back 5000 years. What’s shocking, however, is that this tribal art form, done by the traditional metalsmiths of Bengal – the Dhokra Damar tribes, has survived the test of time and is still in use today. Here’s a look at the journey of this metal art from the heartlands of Bengal to the rest of the world.

More details can be found here: www.mashindia.com/dhokra-art-the-unusual-craft-of-brass-f...

In the photo it is seen that a man is selling his dhokra art!

There’s a male Phainopepla living in my yard—shiny black, crest slicked back, and convinced he’s the main character. He zooms around the firethorn bush like he owns it (because he does), flashing feathers and singing the same song over and over. Field guides say they mimic other birds—mine doesn’t. He has standards.

Then came the female, elegant, gray, mysterious. They’re clearly nesting, though I’ve never looked. Why? Because I’m not a nest-peeping weirdo. Some things are better left private, especially when your yard is hosting the goth power couple of the desert.

Couplet

He gleams like obsidian, sings with control

And treats my backyard like it’s rock & roll.

(Obsidian – A sleek, glassy black rock made from fast-cooled lava, often used for tools, weapons, and metaphors involving stylish birds.)

(The first time I heard the word Phainopepla, I thought it sounded like a Scandinavian shampoo, or maybe a Mediterranean side dish that costs $14 and comes with exactly one olive. According to science, it’s pronounced fay-no-PEP-la, but let’s be honest: even the bird doesn’t know how to say it.)

Dear friend, unfortunately, I will have to undergo surgery again. Doctors have found in the biopsy a small cancerous tumor, less than 6mm, so they will have to remove the entire lung lobe to prevent recurrence.

The surgery will be done tomorrow, so I will be some time off. Luckily I feel very well and strong to face this situation.

Many thanks to all for your visits and words of support. See you soon here on Flickr

Happy Wednesday everyone!

While they come in all varieties of somewhat freaky-looking spiders, orb weavers--like our famous friend from 'Charlotte's Web'--are considered harmless to people. The only way one is likely to cross you is by building a web you don't see before accidentally walking through it! And the Spiny Orbweaver (Gasteracantha cancriformis) takes the extra step of putting tufts of silk out on its webs to help us spot them. After all, a lot of work goes into these constructions, the last thing they need is for us to come loping--or birds to go flying--through them.

Just quick shot from the car...ha,ha

Have a great week guys.Thank you for comments and faves.

I mainly took this photo because Charlie sat still for a moment and looked nice with the heather bokeh. He was watching Fynn who was dozing on a table and Charlie seemed to fancy jumping onto him (an idea he luckily gave up).

For now things between Charlie and his new brother are looking quite good IMHO although my niece isn't happy that the little one is still hissing and growling a lot. Apparently Charlie behaves exactly how he behaves with Tofu too, which means he is dominant but in a playful way. I add a capture in the comments which shows a typical situation between Charlie and Tofu. That's something Tofu can cope with and I'm sure Charlie's new brother will quickly learn that too.

Despite a flurry this morning of wet snow and hail that shocked even me (because I like winter, but not in October)...this flower carries on with its business of dazzling me with its sparkle and shine. Especially today, I'm thankful for the Rudbeckia Hirta flowers that continue to bloom in my garden.

Don't let bad weather, bad people or bad situations get you down. Turn those tears into diamonds...all you have to do is find the light and continue to bloom.
