04/52 - "Single Light Portrait"
I had a very specific idea in mind that I had seen and wanted to sort of replecate. This wasn't it. I haven't quite gotten the hang of using these new off camera flash triggers and controlling the power of the flash thru them. But I did finally set up my phone to trigger the camera remotely again, which helped greatly.
I used a standard speedlite, with a slight CTO gel while having WB set to tungsten. Didn't quite get as much of the color balance as I was expecting/hoping though - probably needed another CTO. Also taped some black cards to the side of the flash to act as flags and minimize the amount of spill onto the background. I need to play around more with different models than myself. Maybe then I'll get that look that I was thinking about.

Week #4 ~ Single Light Portrait
Thanks to Dee and Leo for posing!
Taken using one on-camera flash.
A very quick edit of an image taken at a Peter Coulson workshop held recently at Studio 501 in Sydney. Model for the morning session the wonderful Schanae Jellick.
It's amazing what Peter can achieve using just a single light and it's a great pleasure to be a part of his workshop and learn some new techniques in a relaxed and supportive session. I'll definitely be back for more when the opportunity arises.

This might be an example of how not to take a single light portrait if you want the subject to love it. If you want to convey a mood, however...................
