With a single rebuilt AC44/60CW, UP train ZMNNP-18 has just finished working the intermodal ramp at UP's Neff Yard and swapped crews, getting to ready continue west on Main Track 3.
In the background, a trio of SD40N's are tied down with UP train YKS87R-18 on Track 212, which died here at Neff last night before trying to make it back to 18th St. Yard with a transfer. 1/19/25.

NOTE: Usually, if WS260 is a single decker, it'd sub after half a rounder at Uxbridge, where driver of WS261 would swap for 260 to take it back to the depot.
Today, it appeared they didn't do this operation, making it more rarer then usual.

That was picked some 10 yrs ago with a single needle. I wanted to do it straight away, but I couldn't find any other needle, so you can imagine it took me a long time :)
An early afternoon Eastbourne to Ashford service slows for the stop at the remote Winchelsea station. The station, which is around a mile from the town, is served by Southern class 171 diesel units which run between Eastbourne and Ashford.
Back in 1979 the stretch of line between Appledore and Ore was singled, with a passing loop at Rye. At Winchelsea, which has staggered platforms, services now use the former Up platform which just has a tiny shelter on the platform. The main station buildings on the former Down platform are now in private ownership.

Built in 1865 by the Victorian Railways, the Port of Echuca Wharf was crucial to Echuca’s development. For many years, Echuca was the main shipbuilding centre for the river transport industry. Some of the boats built in Echuca, such as the PS Adelaide, still operate on the Murray River today. At its peak, Echuca supported 8 sawmills and turned over up to 240 paddlesteamers a year.
One single snowflake frozen in the air. I was zoomed in all the way to 105 mm, wide-open at f/4, and just happened to get lucky.
I intended to just get the repeating pattern of the logs with snow on them and this little guy creeped into focus.
It was a great way to spend some time on a beautiful day.

Have you ever experienced a momentary encounter with someone when your eyes locked and it struck a deep chord within you? Sometimes we can remember that instant connection for years afterwards even though in the scheme of things it was a pretty insignificant event.
A couple of days ago, my wife and I were returning to town after a couple of hours scouring the countryside for friendly encounters with things that move. As we neared town, I spotted an eagle resting on a smaller tree as he surveyed a wetland pond that was trying to escape the clutches of winter.
After watching for a bit, he decided to leave. Nearly every time I am within 50 yards of an eagle and they get up to leave, they normally head away from me and are soon gone far from me.
But this one decided to circle above the pond and then came back to check me out as if he couldn’t believe what he saw the first time. Always a thrill to look into the eyes of an eagle.
