The church was designed by Adriaan Dortsman (ca. 1636-1682) and was opened in 1671. In 1822 the church was nearly destroyed and was rebuilt in 1826. The organ was built by J Batz in 1830 and it was restored in 1983 by Flentrop Orgelbouw.[1] In 1935 the Lutherans left the building and it became a concert hall. In 1975 a tunnel was built by the neighboring Sonesta Hotel, today called the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, for its own access. The hotel rents the church from the Lutheran church which is still the owner today. In 1983 the church was closed for restoration, but in 1993 the dome caught fire;[1] the church was again restored.
The church is not open to the public, but interested persons may request to view it at the Renaissance hotel. A security guard accompanies visitors through the tunnel to the church where the ground floor of the consistory has been converted to bathrooms and the upper floor to a meeting room. Of the main hall, the impressive columns, galleries, organ and pulpit can still be seen.

Between 1428 and 1450, when it was dug, Het Singel was part of the perimeter of Amsterdam. Today, of course, it's a very central canal. Construction at Bridge 8 - once called 'Distribution-to-the-Poor Bridge' - at the Raadhuisstraat crossing made a temporary bridge a few meters away necessary. It's now used by pedestrians and bikes. The light sculpture was designed by René Gast and Yvonne Kroes. It's a playful rendering of an Octopus. That fits a tradition in Amsterdam that shows magical creatures sculpted in many of its bridges. Moreover, you'll often see Octopi on old sea charts and world maps. At the Raadhuisstraat it symbolises the maritine power once of Amsterdam to the very horizons of the oceans.
The photo was taken from the Torensluis Bridge.
This is Number Three.
What a trash.

Amsterdam - Singel / Stromarkt.
The "Haarlemmersluis" is a 17th century lock located at the eastern end of the Brouwersgracht (canal), where the Singel canal flows into the river IJ.
The lock is a popular tourist spot. Large numbers of canal cruise boats pass through it.
The area around the lock was a fish market for centuries.

Sun setting on Singel Canal, Amsterdam looking away from the Central Station direction towards Koepelkerk, the former Lutheran Church (1671). Singel encircled the entire city in the Middle Ages and served as a moat until 1585 when the city expanded beyond the canal. Singel is the inner-most canal in Amsterdam's semicircular ring of canals.
