O al menos un futuro bastante negro. Con esta triste estampa tuvimos que toparnos, dos 440 de Cercanias absolutamente vandalizadas, una autentica lastima. Irún-Plaiaundi (Guipuzcoa). 9-4-2011
I have shown you so many Romanesque churches from Saintonge over the past weeks that I was sure I would end up boring even the most faithful of those who are kind enough to watch my stream... Therefore, I skipped some, and in particular the Saint Quentin church in the village of Chermignac.
However, as I was tidying up, I found these two lovely photos of some beasts and human faces that were so funny and attractive I simply couldn’t throw them away.
Monsters in the Middle Ages were very present, both in the tales people told and in the religious context. Monsters were serious business. They were associated with Evil, Satan, bad deeds, sins, Hell and the like. They were supposed to scare the members of the congregation, and that’s primarily why they were sculpted on churches: as terrifying reminders of what would happen to you if you strayed.
However, from time to time, you encountered someone who also liked to make fun of them monsters, and in the case of this wonderful artist who sculpted at Chermignac, you obtained those lovely, not at all scary creatures that will make you smile, maybe laugh, allowing you to walk away with a slightly more relaxed moral stance on the exacting standards of good and bad that the church was trying to nail into your head... :o)

"Be proud and walk with your head held high" - but not so high that you can be snapped easily.
This is the 5th part in mine and Aaron's series "The Seven Deadly Sins" - Pride. We had a big brainstorm session today coming up with ideas, and I decided to go with the theme of bruised pride. I don't always realize when I'm being overly proud of myself, and sometimes something as small and insignificant as an blatantly-rude-and-not-in-the-slightest-constructive-criticism-comment on a photo of mine can really knock me off my high horse. Which in some ways is good, as it keeps me grounded for the most part, but nonetheless sucks ass when it happens,
So here is my take on pride - the after-effect, which is far more noticeable to me than when I'm actually being excessively proud.
Today was pretty much incredible! Me and Aaron went to see the Ladyboys of Bangkok and it was the most awesome show ever - they are holy crap realistic, I couldn't believe that they were not women, they looked so freakin' pretty!! Tomorrow we are going to Waterworld which is like a giant water themepark, so that should be awesome too!!
Oh, and the reason Aaron is not in this photo *sniff* is because we both only realized we'd forgotten to put him in when we were editing and had already put the lighting stuff away. Maybe they should make forgetfulness a sin!
Anyway, I'm going to finish up on here and go cuddle in bed with my love and enjoy the feel of his skin on mine while I still can. I can't even describe how much my heart is breaking knowing I have to say goodbye soon, and knowing he won't be seeing england again until easter time next year. Sucks :(
