Sgt George Simpson
The 125th Pennsylvania Infantry was organized just days before the battle. The morning of September 17 found this regiment advancing into the woods just north of the Dunker Church. Their color bearer was Sergeant George Simpson. Upon entering the woods, Confederates counterattacked and almost immediately Simpson was shot down, “he fell, his death was instantaneous…covering the flag with his body and staining it with his life’s blood oozing from his right temple.” Private Boblitz picked up the flag until he was shot down, and then Sergeant Greenland retrieved it and retreated with the regiment. That flag was given to George’s family and forty-two years later a monument was built on the battlefield by the veterans of the 125th. Carved into granite is a likeness of George Simpson holding his colors. The monument was unveiled by George’s sister Miss Annie Simpson who brought the original flag back for the ceremony. The Huntington Globe reported that the flag “will wave again over the men who made the gallant and heroic charge into the Dunker Church woods…and the sight of it will revive many of the recollections and emotions of that exciting and strenuous day.”
The hair is far too big to really be me. And now that I look at it again I think my hair is darker than this. Oh well.

Lancet Windows
The two small lancet windows at the west end of church are 13th century. The stained glass is later and depicts St Helena and St Paulinus. St Helena was the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine. She is said to have discovered the True Cross on which Jesus was crucified when she made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. St Paulinus was an Italian missionary who converted Northumbria to Christianity, became the first Bishop of York, and was later made Archbishop of Rochester.
These two windows were given by Orlando Bridgeman-Simpson of Wentbridge.

"I hope we find some of the most incredible super-fans that the world has ever seen," filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, who will direct the anniversary special, said during a Wednesday conference call. "Maybe there's people who want to tell stories about how it changed their life...but we hope we get great people who have great stories to tell."
How can an expert on all things Springfield get a leg up during the auditions? Spurlock suggests dressing up like a favorite The Simpsons Seasons 1-20 DVD Boxsetcharacter, or transforming yourself into some sort of "billboard" for the long-running animated series.
The open casting call will take place Saturday, July 25, at the Marriot Hotel & Marina in San Diego, starting in the morning at 10/9 CT and ending that night at 8.
