Simpson Desert flora - Citrullus lanatus
Afghan melons are distinguished from the introduced Paddy melons (Cucumis myriocarpus) by their larger size (15cms vs 3cm) and their smoother light green skin which may develop yellow variegation with age. In comparison, the much smaller Paddy melons have strong stripes, initially dark green but changing to yellow in mature fruit.
