Description: An image of a soldier with a donkey, the donkey has the recognisable medical cross around his head. Students will focus on both the picture and the first two lines of the caption which read; "Which man with the Donkey? Widely published as an image supposedly of Simpson, this is actually a photograph of Private L.A Johnson, 4th Field Ambulance, taken by the CO of the unit".

Critique: When Australians see images such as this they immediately recognise the man with the donkey to be Simpson. This is a common misconception; the man in the photo is actually Private L.A Johnson. Students need to be aware that not every soldier that comes into contact with field ambulance donkeys are Simpson. Simpson is portrayed as an Australian soldier and an Australian born and celebrated icon; students need to know that this is not the case. Simpson was brave and he did save a lot of men but the mythology that he is Australia’s most well-known and greatest soldier needs to be explained, discussed and interpreted in the classroom.

Hero of ANZAC

Twenty-two years old, English-born and a trade union activist, John Simpson Kirkpatrick was an unlikely figure to become a national hero. Having deserted from the merchant navy in 1910, he tramped around Australia and worked in a variety of jobs. He enlisted in the AIF, expecting this would give him the chance to get back to England; instead, Private Simpson found himself at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, and was killed less than four weeks later.

Simpson would not have made a good peacetime soldier, and he was recklessly independent in war. Instructed to recover and help the wounded he undertook this work enthusiastically. Famously, he used a small donkey to carry men down from the front line, often exposing himself to fire. The bravery of this "man with the donkey" soon became the most prominent symbol of Australian courage and tenacity on Gallipoli.

Although Simpson carried no arms and remains an enigmatic figure, the nature of his sacrifice made a vital contribution to the story of ANZAC.

Simpsons pinball party at the Redbeck Cafe, Doncaster Road, Wakefield - they have always had a machine in here for years, unfortunately, this one is not in very good condition with a weak left flipper and an upper left flipper that does not work. 28 Sep 2009. Still there 22 Mar 2010 - better operational condition, but upper left flipper still not working.

Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles co-chaired a failed Presidential Commission called the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. The mandate for this commission was to produce a report to outline deficit reduction solutions. The commission failed to produce a report. The co-chairs released a memo that reflects their own opinions, but really should have no value in informing legislation. In short their memo and the propaganda use of it is freakish and monstrous.

Daniel Radcliffe gets the Twilight treatment on simpsons series

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) will be on hand to present The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: in 3-D! on Ice, a documentary that examines the "cultural phenomenon" of the animated series, which debuted on Fox in 1989. The special will air on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 8:30/7:30c.

Immediately preceding the special at 8/7c will be the series' 450th episode, "Once Upon a Time in Springfield," which will feature the voices of Anne Hathaway, the late Eartha Kitt and Jackie Mason (who will reprise his role as Krusty's father, Rabbi Hyman Krustofski).
