Image scanned from an old print, which resulted in a .tif file image. Converted to .jpg file so that I could use my simple JPEG photo editing system to modify. This car no longer exists to re-shoot. Photo restoration is my only link to its past.
I realize this is not a best-choice manipulation solution. I realize also that my results are far from gallery level. You might characterize these results more on a "poor man's" personal satisfaction level.
Experienced photoshop users can do many more wondrous things. But for a car-shooter like myself (with limited tools and limited experience), I think the simple improvement over a "winter junk background" is worth trying.
The only rule of thumb is to remember not to over-do. This is, after all, a BACKGROUND adjustment. Promotion of the central subject is still the idea focus.
What do you think, now that the modification is pointed out?
All things considered, I say the maneuver simplified a sparse and knurly-gnarly forested background setting into a better unified locale backdrop.
I'm sure this could be finished to a higher degree, even with the simple editing tools mentioned earlier. Care to try something similar? With less apparent miscellaneous cloning? A pattern could be developed that might simulate a real wallpaper-style background rather than just an implied-pattern background.
