The Simi La, or Simi Pass, isn't really a pass at all. The valley leading down to Gyantse is blocked by a hydro-electric scheme and the road is forced to climb up to a high point on the valley side, which is festooned with prayer flags (and mobile phone antennae) in the usual manner.

This mastodon was found in the Simi Valley in Ventura County back in 2001. This skeleton wonderfully shows the mastodon's squat nature (as opposed to mammoths, who have longer legs and thus a more elegant stride).
