House of Blues - Dallas, Texas February 2020

Day 128:

This has nothing to do with tonight’s photo, but I am SOOOOOOOO Happy

right now. For those not in the LA / Orange County area, every year for the

past... oh... 15 years now KROQ (106.7fm) has had an annual Christmas

concert called: “Almost Acoustic Christmas” and these tickets are hard to

come by. Well about a month ago they made the announcement about

this years concert. First they announced the first nights line-up. It’s usually

the more “aggressive” night. A few interesting bands listed. Here they are

as follows (in the order they will be playing, 1st to last):

Paramore

Angels & Airwaves

Serj Tankian (singer of System Of A Down)

Rise Against

Avenged Sevenfold

Bad Religion

Linkin Park

The following day they announced the second nights line-up. Sheri and

I had been racking our brains trying to guess who would be a part of the

show and we both had our must for the show and as they played their

little opening we anxiously wanted. Then it happened. The second we

heard the vocals, we went nuts. It was Muse!!! Sheri and I saw them

back in April (2007) and had the concert experience of a lifetime. If you

even are a casual listener of Muse then you HAVE to see them live. I

cannot express that enough. You won’t be disappointed. Anyway...

Here’s that nights line-up (in the order they will be playing, 1st to last):

Spoon

Feist

Silversun Pickups

The Shins

Modest Mouse

Jimmy Eat World

Muse

So after the announcements they tell us that information is coming soon on when the tickets go on sale. The rest of the week went by and then the weekend and finally on

that Monday they said the date. It would be 3 more weeks until the tickets went on sale.

Which is only 2 days and 3 days prior to the concerts. Insane! You also had to be a member of their Street Team (which I’ve been for almost 2 years now and it’s helped

getting tickets before the general public on other concerts we’ve been to.) in order to

buy tickets. So we wait and as the days pass by and then to the point where it was

only hours and then minutes away. I stayed so positive about getting tickets. I tested

seeing if I could get Night One tickets and I tried as soon as it hit 5pm and I didn’t

make it. Less than 1 minute and they were sold out. Not good. Then 6pm came around

and was time to try for Night Two. The night we wanted. My hearts pounding and I’m so

focused and what ended up happening?

I got two tickets to Night Two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I can’t believe I got tickets. I’m so happy and can’t wait to go. Okay, I’m done. :D

One day last week, I grabbed a travel mug of steaming hot coffee and headed down to the forest preserve to walk the bike trail along the Fox River. Most of the trees are still green so I'll need to get back there throughout the month of October. The diffused light coming through the trees was so dreamy; and I loved how the tree trunks framed the scene ... and how beautifully the trees reflected in the river. I spent four lovely hours walking and shooting. For an early Thursday morning, there were a lot of bikers and joggers, and people walking their dogs. I spent four hours out there hiking around, and hit up an antique shop on my way back. It was a great day!

Seriously, this is just my favorite time of the year. I am going out again today to soak up the wonderful Indian Summer we are experiencing here in Chicago. Happy Monday Everyone!

♫ Silversun Pickups – Dream at Tempo 119 ♫

On a chilly rainy night back in January, after dropping Jackie off at her dorm: I drove around the city and shot the glistening pavement, the city lights. Just found this image and thought it would be a good Bokeh Wednesday shot.

While I'm uploading it, I'm listening to Silversun Pickups, one of my favorite alternative bands; which led me to thinking about Lollapalooza in 2007. They were starting to gain popularity back then but there wasn't a big crowd at their stage. I was right in front of the band (but sadly, I only had my old flip-screen P&S Nikon CP 5700). But being up close was a bonus ... though shutter delay meant a lot of blurry shots; I managed to capture a few good ones (in comments). It was a great show, full of energy and that lead singer smiled throughout his performance. \../

I'm pretty excited to be going to Lollapalooza again in August ... and the coolest thing EVER is, my best friend since childhood is flying in from California with her daughter to go with us!! We are so stoked ... a lot of good bands to see this year!!

Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

This is how Jackie described my birthday today!! I love that kid!!

In gamer parlance: "When a player of a video game has earned enough experience points (EXP) to acquire a new level in a skill or skills. Often, this is accompanied by the ability to wield new weaponry, access new places, to gain new abilities ... or to increase the capabilities of a character."

I'm thinking this leveling up experience has something going for it ... especially the new weaponry part!! So ... if ya got something to say about growing old … or about turning 50 … put it in a note, put in the tags … I think I need some laughs today my Flickr Peeps!

I saved this particular photo (taken by Rachel) for today … because I hope I'll be able to "leap & frolic" my way through the next decade ... exactly like this!!!

One of favorite contemporary bands. Their distinctive alternative/indie rock feels epic, without being predictable.

Great lyrics, tight musicianship and an underlying eeriness tie all the songs together. You don't listen to just one song, you listen all the way through.

it's two months today and so angie's second photo and i thought i'd stay with the instax for the moment. true to form, she rocks it and shows me how it should really be done: i just don't know how hers are so crisp.

during our "courtship" angie and i realized we had quite different musical tastes but we did have some overlap in the form of "indie/alternative" and, when we first got together and toured new orleans and the surrounding areas, she had put together a mix cd of things she thought i might like. one song stuck out and i have subsequently played it to death: it's not necessarily an "our song" but, in my mind, it will be forever be linked with that wonderful time we spent together at the dawn of our true romance. this is it.

Today is my birthday! The big 51!

In celebration of my return home ... and my birthday ... I give you this: one of my favorite images from a fantastic morning sunrise. Usually, sunsets are the 'thing' to shoot when on the West Coast.

But sometimes, if you are out and about in the early morning hours (like I usually am), turning your back on the sea will reward you with a sight such as this. I've already given you a taste of this exact scene with an iPhone photo {in comments}. I had initially thought that the phone shot was way better than my Nikon shot. What do you think? It is interesting to compare images shot of the same scene from a DSLR and a Camera Phone!

I would really like to thank EVERYONE who kept up with my rare and random posts while I was away. I appreciate those that commented and those that inquired. It was a wonderful trip. Becoming a grandmother is something I had never put much though into! It is a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it!!!

So here I am at home ... 8,000+ miles later and one year older, celebrating yet another birthday ... and thinking how much cooler 51 is than turning 50!!!

Happy Cliche Saturday!!! Aren't all sunrises a cliche?

This was shoot #3 with the beautiful Kristina Mezzetti, she's the actress featured in the new Silversun Pickups video for the song Bloody Mary. You can watch it here.

This was a last minute shoot. We traded emails at 2pm yesterday and shot a few hours later. Working in Hollywood has its perks. :-)
