Our bottlebrush shrubs are bursting like crazy in our yard. The bees and hummingbirds love them so we can't get too close. They just remind me of fireworks!

A pretty shrub I captured while walking at Warilla South Coast New South Wales. A flickr friend called Pat has told me this is a Lace cap Hydrangea, thank you Pat

With little yellow eylets in the middle,..Unfortunately l dont know its Name.

Cute pond at the San Francisco botanical garden.

Hydrangeas are popular shrubs with colorful flowers that bloom through summer and into fall. They usually bloom in shades of blue, purple, ..

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 1st of April is “a single flower”. Just by chance, the day the theme was announced, I walked out into my rear garden and saw that the first “Plantation Pink” Camelia Sasanqua in my hedge had burst forth. The hedge is covered in buds, but only one single flower, so it seemed appropriate to select it for this week’s theme. I hope you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

Vigorous and fast growing, Camellia Sasanqua “Plantation Pink” is an upright evergreen shrub with masses of large sweetly scented single to semi-double, soft pink flowers and a wonderful centre of golden yellow stamens. The blooms occur over quite a long period between March and June in the Southern Hemisphere which makes them very popular. They are often used for hedges or to cover walls.

I planted it years ago as a little offspring, never knowing the name. It grew to a shrub which blooms every springtime in out courtyard.

Azaleas (/əˈzeɪliə/ ə-ZAY-lee-ə) are flowering shrubs in the genus Rhododendron, particularly the former sections Tsutsusi (evergreen) and Pentanthera (deciduous). Azaleas bloom in the spring (April and May in the temperate Northern Hemisphere, and October and November in the Southern Hemisphere), their flowers often lasting several weeks. Shade tolerant, they prefer living near or under trees. They are part of the family Ericaceae.

Cultivation

Plant enthusiasts have selectively bred azaleas for hundreds of years. This human selection has produced thousands of different cultivars which are propagated by cuttings. Azalea seeds can also be collected and germinated.

Azaleas are generally slow-growing and do best in well-drained acidic soil (4.5–6.0 pH). Fertilizer needs are low. Some species need regular pruning.

Azaleas are native to several continents including Asia, Europe and North America. They are planted abundantly as ornamentals in the southeastern US, southern Asia, and parts of southwest Europe.[citation needed]

According to azalea historian Fred Galle, in the United States, Azalea indica (in this case, the group of plants called Southern indicas) was first introduced to the outdoor landscape in the 1830s at the rice plantation Magnolia-on-the-Ashley in Charleston, South Carolina. From Philadelphia, where they were grown only in greenhouses, John Grimke Drayton (Magnolia's owner) imported the plants for use in his estate garden. With encouragement from Charles Sprague Sargent from Harvard's Arnold Arboretum, Magnolia Gardens was opened to the public in 1871, following the American Civil War. Magnolia is one of the oldest public gardens in America. Since the late 19th century, in late March and early April, thousands visit to see the azaleas bloom in their full glory.[citation needed]

I have no idea what this beautiful wild shrub is.

On the cliff walk at Stackpole the sheep roam about and, inevitably, their fleece gets caught on the bushes. There were no clouds to define the sky just milky sheet cloud unfortunately hence the white out sky. Hey Ho, you can't win the all.

Physocarpus capitatus, commonly called Pacific ninebark or tall ninebark, is a species of Physocarpus native to western North America from southern Alaska east to Montana and Utah, and south to southern California.

It is a dense deciduous shrub growing to 1–2.5 metres (3 ft 3 in–8 ft 2 in) tall. The name comes from the appearance of the bark, which is flaky, peeling away in many layers. The shrub has distinctive maple-like lobed leaves 3–14 centimetres (1.2–5.5 in) long and broad, and clusters of small white flowers with five petals and numerous red-tipped stamens. The unique fruit is an inflated glossy red pod which turns dry and brown and then splits open to release seeds.

It is often found in wetlands, but also forms thickets along rivers and in moist forest habitats. While it grows most robustly in wet environments, it is drought-tolerant to a degree and is a popular California garden plant.
