This beautiful hawk was perched just a few feet from the ground in a marshy clearing keeping a watchful look out for it's usual prey which includes small mammals, lizards, snakes, frogs, crayfish and insects.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

I've never seen a Red-shouldered Hawk do what this one did today. It came down from the top of the tree, obviously with prey in its sights, right in front of a group of photographers. It then hovered right in front of us for seconds, landing on the bannister adjacent to the group, then flew back to the trees but landed upside down on a branch before taking off in embarrassment a few seconds later. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Back from our recent trip to Florida where we caught up with our friends Mark and Linda and enjoyed a few visits to the Circle B Bar Reserve.

Here are a couple of Red-shouldered Hawks taking time out in the shade during a very sunny and hot afternoon.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Was gazing down from the tree top looking for an appetizer. Thank you Risa for correcting my id of the hawk.

This hawk was photographed at Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida. In my part of Florida, the red-shouldered hawk is by far the most prevalent hawk species. We have some Cooper's hawks and some red-tailed hawks and you might occasionally see a short-tailed hawk but I'd estimate that around 95% of our hawks are red-shouldered.

Near threatened species. Many species of Thraupis tanagers are widely-distributed, but the Azure-shouldered Tanager occurs only in the Atlantic forest region of southeastern Brazil, from Espírito Santo south to Rio Grande do Sul. Its distribution overlaps that of the Sayaca Tanager (Thraupis sayaca), but the Azure-shouldered Tanager is larger with a heavier bill, has deep blue wing coverts, and a buffy belly. The Azure-shouldered Tanager forages in humid forest, at forest edge, and in adjacent second growth, but in general it is more closely associated with forest than is the Sayaca Tanager. The diet of the Azure-shouldered Tanager includes both fruit and arthropods. Birds of the World.

It was great to see the pair of Black-shouldered Kites back in the Sneydes Rd area this morning. I observed them collecting nesting material again.

I will be back later to catch up - got to run for now.

Red-shouldered Hawks return to the same nesting territory year after year. One Red-shouldered Hawk occupied a territory in southern California for 16 consecutive years.

Thanks so much for the visit!

This is the second image I managed to get of this hawk taking off into the wind against me. Sometimes you get lucky and they give you an opportunity even when conditions aren't right. Peaceful Waters Sanctuary

Another day, another storm.

Just before the rain set in, a little break of sunlight set the Kite against the approaching storm clouds.

south meadows trail. i think you can see feathers stuck to its beak from its last meal.

i saw this beast a few days ago--drove right by it, but when I got out of the car, it flew to a higher perch.

yesterday, i realized it wasn't afraid of my car, so i just rolled up to it, rolled down the window and started blasting.
