Binnenschifffahrt ist die überwiegend berufliche/unternehmerische Schifffahrt auf Binnengewässern und Binnenwasserstraßen, also auf Flüssen, Kanälen und Seen im Bereich des Güter- und Personentransports.
So much of the world relies on sea freight. Even during the pandemic these are the jobs that are probably the most secure. Someone has to do it or the world would grind to a halt. I would imagine the contact to other people in a job like this is minimal and the workers spend so much time at the sea that they aren't in that big of a risk.
Yesterday I signed a work contract. I finally have a job! I was supposed to get it in January, but then one delay after another led to it happening only now, 8 months later. Back in March when the pandemic was just picking up in Finland, me getting a job felt like it's a forever away. But I've overcome that forever. Hopefully everything goes according to plan and I will also get a better car! My current car leaks oil, every winter the AC leaks out the refrigerant, the wheel alignments are wonky and won't stay fixed, the wheel bearings are probably done, can't lock the doors anymore, the windshield is cracked and worn. It has done over 320 thousand kilometers.
This picture was taken in Finnsnes, Senja in Norway. This view looked so classic that I had to stop to get a picture of it.

Malin Head is located on the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland and is the most northerly point of the island of Ireland.
Malin Head gives its name to the Malin sea area. There is a weather station on the head, which is one of 22 such stations whose reports are broadcast as part of the BBC Shipping Forecast.
I love to listen to the shipping forecast, even though I don't fully understand it. It sounds like some sort of nautical poetry full of remote, wild coastal names and obscure weather terminology.
Malin:
Wind - West 5 to 7, then backing southwest 4 or 5 later.
Sea State - Rough or very rough.
Weather - Occasional rain or showers.
Visibility - Good, occasionally moderate.
When I hear it, I imagine some poor mariners, tossed and battered by the elements, listening to the same broadcast, hoping for some good news of better weather to come.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
(Psalm 33:18-22)

On historic ships and cranes you can experience how the world port of Rotterdam originated here.
In July and August, the Maritime Museum organizes boat trips through the Leuvehaven and surrounding inland ports.
You must forgive me for posting the occasional image of the Golden Gate Bridge. I like this view of the bridge at sunset because it shows how busy the San Francisco Bay is: one tanker is entering the Bay while another is leaving, and a small fishing vessel makes its way between the two. And then, of course, there is the bridge against a colorful sky, but no fog!
