in our garden - Frankfurt-Nordend
The dry-stone walls near Litton, Derbyshire always look pretty through the year in sunlight. On this day there was a lovely silvery golden sheen upon the snow.

MEDIUM-SIZED, generally fruit-eating birds, colourful with metallic sheens, usually gregarious and noisy, a joy to see, and very hard to get a decent image off, because of their long tail plumage. Seen in the Koto area of the Gambia.

Note to self: Waiting for Laura Jean to upgrade her iPhone. This leather chair looked like it had potential for either a photo or sitting or both.
Common Starlings are looking great just now. This is a male with the pale blue base to the bill, females have pink bill bases.

The sun's sheen fights through a departing storm front to brighten up New Buffalo Beach on this night, July 8, 2021.
This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Metallic Sheen. One is new and one I found in my treasure trove of archives...

Thank you so much to all of you guys... for your incredible comments! You helped me to find a great title for this photo. Very adorkable suggestions 😄
And a special thanks to Jim (www.flickr.com/photos/84120972@N06/) your idea was hilarious! I'm taking it.
And to Juli Sonne (www.flickr.com/photos/julisonne/) for the song suggestion:

(And a shout out to Scooby Doo for introducing The Ramones band to a lot of kids)
Turns out we discover that the duck in the photograph is a female one. So we decided to name her Sheena. That’s so much more funny than the one we had in mind.
God bless you all!!!

Now for something closer to home.
The common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) is a large icterid which is found in large numbers through much of North America.
Adult common grackles measure from 28 to 34 cm (11 to 13 in) in length, span 36–46 cm (14–18 in) across the wings and weigh 74–142 g (2.6–5.0 oz).
Common grackles are less sexually dimorphic than larger grackle species but the differences between the sexes can still be noticeable. The male, which averages 122 g (4.3 oz), is larger than the female, at an average of 94 g (3.3 oz). Adults have a long, dark bill, pale yellowish eyes and a long tail; its feathers appear black with purple, green or blue iridescence on the head, and primarily bronze sheen in the body plumage.
The breeding habitat is open and semi-open areas across North America east of the Rocky Mountains. The nest is a well-concealed cup in dense trees (particularly pine) or shrubs, usually near water; sometimes, the common grackle will nest in cavities or in man-made structures. It often nests in colonies, some being quite large. Bird houses are also a suitable nesting site. There are four to seven eggs.
This bird is a permanent resident in much of its range. Northern birds migrate in flocks to the southeastern United States. – Wikipedia
I didn't mean this photo to be particularly morbid but it reminded me of a scene from the temple of the May Faced God in the TV series Game of Thrones. If you've watched the series you'l recognise the title as being a recurrent phrase and one that was used to open the doors of the temple.
The face is actually found outside the village church at Sheen in the Peak District. There are a number of gargoyle heads that are lined up, looking at the sky, on an outside wall of the church - although the church was rebuild in the 16th and 19th centuries the gargoyles are remains of the original church built in 1185 so they are very special medieval artefacts.
I've always been fascinated by them and decided it was time to have a go some photos - There was some very strong sunlight casting deep shadows when I was there for this shot which limited what I could get but this one very much benefited from that wonderful light illuminating the top of the face.

Oh look at my beauty, it’s not a mistake,
A Swan of pure white upon a moonlit lake.
Wings of silken beauty and sheen of soft snow,
I softly glide in ecstasy wherever I go.
Though I’m only a doll, made of feathers and glass,
My heart is full of wonder, elegance and class.
