Out here, a 'Run' is the watercourse that connects lakes with other lakes and/or the sea. Sheehan Run connects Grover Lake, Sheehan Lake and Grand Lake, and is not all that far from where we now live.

We had another stunning weather day, and decided to do a major exploration of the Grover Lake vicinity, which is close to where we live. Recently, since we were on snowshoes, we felt comfortable crossing the metal bridge. We had an amazing outing. Our GPS indicates we snowshoed 9.73 km's return distance, with an elevation gain of 223 m's, taking 3 hours, 18 minutes to do so.

Gene Sheehan designed, built and trained staff in the art of building District trails, including the Ipiwa Trail on Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve.

This overlook on Ipiwa Trail was dedicated to Gene. It offers panoramic view of Santa Cruz mountains.

Considering we woke up to -20° C (-4° F) this morning, we thought we might not even leave the house. It did rocket up to -3° C (26°F), however. Not only did Larry and I leave the house, we crossed the metal bridge over Sheehan Run on our snowshoes and started our explorations of that side of the Run and the Lake.

This area is not far from where we live, and so it's easy to get to for us. I had some time on this exploration, so I decided to make the effort to set the camera down, start videoing, and move on to the next spot. In the very first clip, I noticed a dog-walker was approaching. The snow was perfect, and the sunshine made it even more magical. Near the end, you'll get to cross Sheehan Run with me on the rickety bridge that goes over it.

Sheehan Branch on Starr Mountain in the Cherokee National Forest, Monroe County, Tennessee.

Ancient home of the Creek and Cherokee...

I met up with mom, dad, and the twins for a mini-session on the beach in Charlotte.

Strobist: Vivitar 285HV in umbrella softbox high camera left, cranked to full power with a 1/2 CTO gel about 3 feet away... I could barely get f/5.6 out of it, so I had to wait for the sun to dip below the mountains before pulling this off. I clearly need more power. Might be time to splurge for some AlienBees.

Cindy Sheehan being interviewed by a foreign journalist at Lafayette Square

Cindy Lee Miller Sheehan (born July 10, 1957 in Bellflower, California) is an American anti-Iraq War activist who attracted international attention in August 2005 for her extended demonstration at a peace camp outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch. She is sometimes referred to by the media as the "Peace Mom".

Sheehan is the mother of the late U.S. Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, who first joined the U.S. Army in May 2000. He re-enlisted in August 2003, at the age of 24. Casey was killed in action on April 4, 2004, just five days after his arrival in Sadr City, Iraq, during the Iraq occupation. Casey had volunteered for a rescue mission in which he and several others were killed. Casey was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart .

The family was active in the Roman Catholic church in Norwalk, and then in Vacaville, California where Cindy Sheehan worked as a youth minister at St. Mary's Church .

Sheehan has stated that she has "always been a Democrat, and had initially questioned the urgency of the invasion of Iraq, but did not become active in the anti-war effort until after her son's death .
