The "Sharps Island Lighthouse" originally stood on an island of over 4,000 acres. The first light, built in 1838, was moveable. In 1866 a screwpile lighthouse was built but was destroyed by ice in 1881. The present 54 foot high iron tower on a concrete-filled caisson was built in 1882 and was painted purple. It is now a more traditional brown, and while it has begun to tilt, it has survived Sharps Island which has completely disappeared.

I drew from a greeting card published by Heritage Art Publishers, Inc. Easton, Maryland. The original watercolour painting is by Ann Clotworthy Charlton, a resident of St. Michaels, Maryland.

Try to work on my watercolour. Copy from the greeting card but cannot get the blue in the sky and sea correct.

I thought this was going to be the strike on a mouse or vole but no. It just looked then settled back into looking around with no interest in my being near.

I noticed this bird of prey being harassed by crows as it attempted to cross the Columbia River. It had its eyes set on the House Finches in a tree near me, but the attention from the crows foiled the surprise attack.

I put off my picture again until the last minute and tried to shoot a water droplet illuminated by an off-camera flash with a purple gel. Working with speed lights has always been a frustrating experience for me as I have not mastered how to set them up or control them properly. This is the best of the bunch and it is not sharp or clear, but sometimes we have to fail to figure out the areas that need improvement. I might have to keep working on this type of image until I master it.

If I ever had the chance to become a City banker or lawyer, this is how I would dress. I really adore this look.

... And once again : I'll meet her again very soon, my very special "Venus of Cappadocia"...

(Here, 3 successive poses of her, taken 2 years ago).

She is a fantastic woman with many talents, not only has she a great sense of humour, but she is also an entertaining comedian ; fun to dance with and a great singer too, always ready to give a little concert for fun at home...

An amazing grandmother who is also a great neighbour, with such a warm heart !

Of course, I'll take more pictures !

(And by the way, she is saying "hello !" to all you Flickr members ! :)))

[Legacy Photo] This was the first and only time I've seen and photographed an adult Eared Grebe in full breeding plumage. The photo was taken at small lake near Klamath Falls Oregon in the spring of 2014. The water effect was created by a combination of a shaded pond that was surrounded by a very green forest and a subtle breeze..

Another fruitful day of mostly NCT spotting was to be had, with a return to Mansfield Road and a bit of a brown line theme developing too, as I ventured up to the hospital. Of course, other stuff was around too, including the first phot on the 'proper' camera, which was Sharpes Van Hool T9 coach 7 JXO turning out of Woodborough Rd and up Mansfield Rd.

Happened in my back yard a couple of years ago. This bird sat on the log and finished the meal over a two-hour period. It was interesting to watch it pull and tug away the bite-sized pieces.

A soft reflection in water of an opposite building on the sharply focused pavement of Epsom High Street, Surrey.

It flew into our living room window this afternoon so while it was regaining it's composure I ran got my camera and clicked off a few.

Encountered on a walk. Possibly star thistle? I can recognize star thistle when it is green, but it looks different when dry.

Focusing on light, texture, and form. The spines and swords give it a special appeal. Even better enlarged!!
