HSoS to all participants!

From a sphere, to a tetrahedron, to a cube, to a dodecahedron, bubbles can build a variety of shapes as they join together. The geometry changes as the bubbles share walls to save their soapy material, creating new shapes inside the morphing spheres.............

Very late and rushed taking this image. Anyway, thanks to member John Dunlop for the idea of water rushing out of a tea pot.

Koloc is a natural dolomite bridge on the Island of Brac, Croatia. It is 12 meters high and 20 meters wide and consists of 2 semi-arches that come together in the middle, formed by wind and water erosion. The name comes from the rock's shape, which is reminiscent of the traditional island cake called Koloc or Baskot.

There are many legends and stories related to this natural phenomenon, mostly involving the supernatural and the spiritual, like dancing fairies and elves (Baldrick might chime in on that one) and one legend says that anyone who passes under the bridge will be granted all their wishes. :-)

When opened in 1890, the Forth Rail Bridge was the longest Cantilever bridge in the world.

Officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's span has only been succeeded by the Quebec Bridge in Canada, and to this day remains the second longest.

It's incredible to think that the bridge was constructed before the age of powered flight.

This castle is located in the middle of the Rhine near the town of Kaub.

At this castle the skippers had to pay toll in order to continue sailing. From this point on, the Rhine narrows significant and squeezes itself trough the valley "Middle Rhine" which is a world heritage from UNESCO. The current in this traject untill the town of Koblenz is very strong and there are treacherous shallows on the rocky bottom and that's why there were also taken river pilots on board.

Note the building of the castle, which has the shape of a ship to withstand the very strong current at high water and ice floes.

A look through by the Nobelpoort in Zierikzee. This is a national monument and was build in the 14th century.

The mill "De Hoop" was build between 1850-1875.

Pedra da Gávea is a monolithic mountain in Tijuca Forest, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Composed of granite and gneiss, its elevation is 844 metres (2,769 ft), making it one of the highest mountains in the world that ends directly in the ocean. Trails on the mountain were opened up by the local farming population in the early 1800s; today, the site is under the administration of the Tijuca National Park.

The mountain's name translates as Rock of the Topsail, and was given to it during the expedition of Captain Gaspar de Lemos, begun in 1501, and in which the Rio de Janeiro bay (today Guanabara Bay, but after which the city was named) also received its name. The mountain, one of the first in Brazil to be named in Portuguese, was named by the expedition's sailors, who compared its silhouette to that of the shape of a topsail of a carrack upon sighting it on January 1, 1502. That name in turn came to be given to the Gávea area of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Differential weathering on one side of the rock has created what is described as a stylized human face. Markings on another face of the rock have been described as an inscription. Geologists and scientists are nearly in agreement that the "inscription" is the result of erosion and that the "face" is a product of pareidolia. Furthermore, the consensus of archaeologists and scholars in Brazil is that the mountain should not be viewed as an archaeological site.

Another B&W from this spot- fascinated with the hills!

Another from the spectacular evening up on Holmepark Fell. I was taken by the way the fiery clouds to the right of this windswept tree sort of complimented it's shape. The textures of the weathered Limestone Pavement on this high exposed plateau also added to nature's rich palette. The colours were spectacular after the sun set, giving the whole scene an ethereal feel.

The sun had set around 20 minutes before over Morecambe Bay with the Fylde Coast and Welsh Mountains in the far distance beyond Heysham Nuclear Power Station. You can also see the car headlights on the M6 in the middle distance near the Carnforth exit and the Bowland Fells lie to the left of the Tree..

I got some lovely images whilst up here again and I also knew my friend John Bleakley was getting the same colours and sky whilst down by the coast in Morecambe. I look forward to seeing the same sky on his shots!!
