This was taken in an alleyway leading from the Thames at Blackfriars in London. I was attracted to the hard directional morning light giving strong angular shadows, and the pools of light reflected from the building were the icing on the cake for me. How could I resist? I was out for a walk around Hastings with my new Fujifilm X10 when I stumbled across this guy doing tricks on his BMX. He was pretty good with some awesome moves - and he looked about my age - here’s to not growing old! Also I loved the shadows cast by the sun shades on the side of the college buildings. This was my first ‘proper’ time out with the X10. It can’t match my Canon EOS 6D for resolution but for a tiny small sensor camera it’s great! So small and light and discreet. Hoping it’ll make street shots a little easier.
I love the shapes of the spiral ramp at the base of the new Lighthouse at Dungeness in Kent. I was there for the sunrise and the low sun was casting shadows on the concrete which appeared blue by comparison from being illuminated by the blue morning sky above. Canon EOS 50D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L
I was taken by the way the light was falling on these London skyscrapers creating dappled streaks of light.
This was shot looking in through a shop window. There was a shaft of sunlight streaming into the shop causing the mannequins to cast shadows inside. I liked the shadow with the cap on like someone watching silently whilst people walked past as they entered the store. This was another shot with the Fujifilm X10 - a small compact camera I’ve bought recently as a lightweight pocketable camera for when it might not be ideal to take a DSLR and big standard zoom.
Recently I've become more interested in street photography. I think it developed out of the urban landscape style shots I was taking over the last couple of years and my increasing use of one or more figures to add a sense of scale or a point of interest. I'm now becoming more interested in the figure themselves and using the environment to add context and for the compositional elements. In fact I've even purchased a new (old) toy - a Fujifilm X10 compact camera to try to be a bit less obvious than waving a big DSLR and zoom lens about. I'm hoping being less conspicuous might make people less aware of me when I'm out and about and create the opportunity for more natural shots. Photographer and YouTuber Sean Tucker is also partly to blame - he's helped me to see ways I can change and hopefully develop and not be afraid to try new things. The X10 is only a small-sensor camera, but handling and manual control is so much better than a smartphone allows. I popped out with it for an hour for the first time in my local town of Hastings and shot this in George Street in the Old Town. I'm keen to get any feedback on my efforts in this new direction, good or bad. Any comments or observations that I might learn from are gratefully appreciated!

Tabitha Kinkade pulled the great sword from its sheath slowly. In the moonlight, the gold leaf that adorned its ornate guard gleamed as she curled her fingers around the grip. She squinted, holding it out straight, and gazed at the glowing sigils that adorned the glistening white metal of the angelic blade.
It had been passed down to her from her ancestors, and to them from the angels who fashioned it in the Celestial Realm. On the day of it's forging it was called Omipotens Iram, but most only knew it as The Wrath Blade, and once again it had been called on to serve its wielder.
From a distance, Tabitha could hear her target's manacle screeching as it approached. The hooves of the destrier it rode pounded into the ground with such power that the very earth trembled.
As Tabitha took her position, she thought it would have been better to take higher ground, but there wasn't time, and so she poised herself directly in the creature's path.
Just as quickly as the red glow appeared at the crest of the dirt road above her, the Revenant burst through the fog with the power of a juggernaut.
With its sword held to it's side, the ghastly figure's eyes shown bright in the darkness. Its face was like stone, except for the lower jaw that moved mechanically as it screamed. The armor that adorned the skeletal corpse appeared to be heavy and confining, as its ornate engravings glistened with the crimson glow of the Revenant's eyes.
The powerful steed the monster rode, fixed its diabolical eyes on Tabitha. In the moment she could see globs of drool, slipping through the horse's gnashing fangs, dangling from its mouth. The beast, which had been raised on the bloody plains of the underworld and the rider that straddled it's back, smelled of brimstone and the rotting flesh of men. And the stench of it filled her nostrils as she squinted and held her ground.
Grinding the toe of her boot into the dirt, she quickly brought Omipotens Iram up, taking a high stance. Her deep blue eyes were dark and motionless as she watched the Revenant and the demon mount gallop towards her. The great blade she held burned bright, glowing with a holy light and from the dark skies above one could faintly hear the angels themselves raising the barritus, striking sword to shield as the Shadowhunter whispered a single word..."Come"
This is a little short based on my character Tabitha Kinkade, the Werewolf Hunter.
I'm hoping to get back into this one and continue this little story, if not for any other reason, so that my kids will have something to remember me by someday. To the actors and artist that have already been cast, I'll be in touch.

As I turned into this road I was immediately struck by the sunlight reflecting from the windows of the building on the left into the shadows of those on the right. I also liked the way the road curved round to the right so I found a spot where this would help lead the eye through the picture and then waited for someone to come along and walk into frame. It took ages! There weren't many people about in this spot. Luckily patience paid off and the sun stayed out whilst I waited. Canon EOS 6D & Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L
I spotted this couple looking very dapper down on Hastings seafront. I couldn't resist getting a picture of them as they strolled near the fishermans huts. It's only as I was taking the shot I noticed his lapel badge declaring his musical leanings with apparent pride. Taken on a Fujifilm X10 compact.
