Designed by award winning local architect Tan Kay Ngee, the architecture takes its cue from the many delicate textural layers of a Danish pastry and alludes to the dynamic and multi-faceted BreadTalk Group, with its diverse and innovative lifestyle brands. Designed as a community based campus to foster closer work relationships, the new BreadTalk Corporate Offices will house courtyards and indoor greenery to stimulate the creative process and encourage interaction with co-workers at open and casual spaces.

Excerpt from the web, the history is as important as the future. : )

The building was completed in 1933 by the architectural firm Keys & Dowdeswell, and built on the existing structure of the Capitol Theatre, built earlier in 1929.

The structure became the backdrop to one of Singapore’s most recognisable street corners, with its striking facade and portico facing the road junction.

On December 1998, its use as a movie theatre ended with its last movie screening, when Shaw Organisation, its tenant since 1984, returned it to the Urban Redevelopment Board (URA) in 1987. In 2000, the Singapore Tourism Board took over the building to explore alternative uses for it, but plans to turn it into a home for an arts group did not bear fruit.

Now, together with its adjoining Capitol Theatre and Stamford House, they are undergoing extensive renovation to reopen in 2015 as Singapore’s first luxury integrated development.

When completed, it will comprise of a luxury hotel, residences, a state-of-the-art theatre and cinema, as well as a retail mall.

Singapore's Chinatown is an ethnic neighbourhood featuring distinctly Chinese cultural elements and a historically concentrated ethnic Chinese population. Chinatown is located within the larger district of Outram.

As the largest ethnic group in Singapore is Chinese, Chinatown is considerably less of an enclave than it once was. However, the district does retain significant historical and cultural significance. Large sections of it have been declared national heritage sites officially designated for conservation by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
