Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to Strawberry Fields.
14 December 1980
Shortly after the news of John Lennon’s death on 8 December 1980, Yoko Ono issued a statement "There is no funeral for John. John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him. Love, Yoko and Sean.” And with that, on 14 December 1980 memorials were held worldwide in Lennon’s memory and, at Ono’s request, ten minutes of silence were given to remember him.
These two pictures were taken at the largest such gathering of people (more than 100,000) in Central Park in NYC. It was near the site of Lennon’s home at the Dakota apartment building and where he was fatally shot. This area in Central Park has since been named “Strawberry Fields”.
The thing I remember the most from that day was the ten minutes of silence. It was a very cold and windy December day in the city but the sun was shinning. Then, almost like clockwork, the sky clouded over and it began to snow just as the 10 minutes of silence began. It snowed for the full ten minutes and then the sun appeared in the sky again and it did not snow again that day. It was all a bit surreal and I remember that this was the main topic of conversation on everyone’s lips when we began to talk again.
At the site of the memorial, an easel was setup in the center of a small amphitheater and was flanked by two bouquets of flowers at the far ends. The easel held a large and unframed version of that quintessential black and white photo of Lennon standing with arms folded and wearing a tee shirt that read “NEW YORK CITY” in bold lettering. It doesn’t show up so well in my photo but I’m sure you have seen the picture before.
I also remember how quiet it was standing nose-to-nose with 100,000 other people in the middle of New York City. I don’t recall anyone other than the media taking pictures during the event as there were no digital cameras back then and the sound of the cameras would have broken the silence. Everyone seemed to have respected that and refrained from taking pictures until the event was over. Well, that’s how I remember it, anyway.
Rock on, John. Rock on.

The Triumph Herald was originally launched in 1959 as a cheap family 2 door Saloon and powered by 948cc S4 engine. Body design was by the Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti and the car was offered in saloon, convertible, coupé, van and estate models.
Despite the popularity of the Herald, by 1960 Standard-Triumph was in financial difficulties, and was taken over by Leyland Motors Ltd in 1961., releasing finances to further develope the Herald.
The car was relaunched in 1961 as the Herald 1200, now powered by an 1147cc engine. The new model featured white rubber bumpers, a wooden laminate dashboard and improved seating. Quality control was also tightened up. Disc brakes also became an option from 1963.

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone
But it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me
