The water snake,
when out of water,
snakes (as experience taught her)
towards the water,
yet her brain
can't tell what's lake, what rain.

Knots creating a serpent like creature moving towards the photographers on the shoreline at Snettisham on the Wash, North Norfolk. The Knot is a dumpy short legged stocky wading bird and forms huge flocks in winter which wheel and turn in flight flashing their pale underwings. Many Knots use the UK estuaries as feeding grounds both on migration and in winter. Large numbers visit the UK in winter from their Artic breeding grounds.
Paddling around in the kayak, you come across things that look unusual. I like how the Marsh St. John's Wort looks like a serpent rising up, and the bent cypress trunk making an arch. Caddo Lake, Texas, USA, October 2022

Not a great image perhaps, but it was an interesting cloud formation. Seeing it, I hoped it would develop into something specacular. It didn't! The ISS got in shot too...

This is the crested serpent eagle I referred to in my previous post. it was more a less around the corner, we first saw this one, and then about 40 meters later we saw the fish owl.
Both were sitting and probably living near a small pond, where their food was swimming around. But they feed also on snakes, hence the name.
Fritillaria Meleagris, also known as Snake's head Fritillary presumably because of the way the bud looks prior to opening. This one has just gone past that stage and is beginning to open.
I would try and get a shot of one of those buds but not sure if they will still be around - woke up this morning to about 3" of snow everywhere. More than we have had all winter......
Wikipedia: The crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a medium-sized bird of prey that is found in forested habitats across tropical Asia. Within its widespread range across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and East Asia, there are considerable variations and some authorities prefer to treat several of its subspecies as completely separate species.
The crested serpent eagle is a reptile eater which hunts over forests, often close to wet grassland, for snakes and lizards. It has also been observed to prey on birds, large insects like grasshoppers or locusts, amphibians, mammals, fishes, termites and large earthworms. It is found mainly over areas with thick vegetation both on the low hills and the plains. This species is a resident species, but in some parts of their range they are found only in summer.
Conservation status: Least Concern
There are over 150 large metal statues created by Ricardo Breceda scattered across the desert in Borrego Springs, CA. The Serpent has 5 sections that stretch out 350 feet, even crossing a road.
Clicked this Crested Serpent Eagle, a medium-sized bird of prey that is found in forested habitats, at the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. As its name suggests, the bird is a reptile eater which hunts over forests and wet grassland. It also takes birds, amphibians, mammals and fishes. I have seen this bird and clicked shots of it in my backyard as well.
