There is a metaphor I've heard a lot of lately. Just as the sun isn't affected whatsoever by whatever it shines on - whether it's garbage dump or a beautiful pristine forest - so the conscousness that permeates and pervades all of the universe isn't affected at all by what it shines on. We are all that consciousness, and as such are not affected one bit by the ups and downs that occur in our lives here as human beings.
