Love [ME] Tender film festival screening June 7, 07 in Coimbra, Portugal
One of my short films Love [ME] Tender will be part of the Transnatura Videolab 07 exhibition. The screening will be taking place June 7 (see full list below). The event will run from May 18 to June 16, in the Botanical Garden (Coimbra). Sessions begin at 9.30pm.

“IMAGE-BODY”
(Curated by Videolab) Organization: Paulo Amaral (Botanical Garden) and Videolab
Being one of the most interesting artistic themes of the last decades, the human body is basically for artists the same a piece of wood, stone or clay was to our ancestors. That is to say that art is turning it into an object susceptible of expressing symbols, meanings. In every day living we stumble in images of the body in the tv, cinema, marketing, and it is probable that this abundance reveals that we are all as a race interested in our bodies. Long centuries have passed since the imposition of the dualism matter spirit, body/soul. From Plato to Descartes, the image of the body as a dangerous machine full of adversities would come to be printed in the collective imaginary of the western man. The globalized societies of the 21st see the body as a tool that we will be able to use to wake in others their attention. In this sense, to talk about the body is to talk about the need of projecting an image – all the bodies wish to transmit an image that is unmistakable theirs’. From inn of all the males, body is now becoming not only what allows an individual to define his own identity but also the vehicle to achieve pleasure. Anyway, we should not forget that the human body has been used througtout the centuries as something similar to an artistic surface, or screen if you prefer, upon which humankind revealed its most deepest thoughts – something that we can still nowadays understand when we look at primitive tribes in Africa and Australia, and see the way in which they decorate their bodies with several degrees of significance. For them, the body is part of a wide ritual that connects them to god, to tradition, to the social community. Could it be that artists are trying to recapture that ritual importance of our material bodies? And should we say that they are leading the process of liberating human beings from the long traditional antagonism body/soul? An event dealing with the “ Image-body “ subjet would not be complete without the inclusion of a selection of works specifically dealing with videodance. Videodance can be understood as a dialogue between dance and video, giving birth to an artistic work where this two languages merge. It is clearly a form of artistic expression that exists in the video and for the video, setting itself up as the materialization of a thought that integrates in simultaneous the ideas of the choreographer and of the video producer. Thus being, videodance is a hybrid work, that does not allow the distinction between the video and the choreography.

This series of intimate self-portraits has been a long time coming... it was my sister who was the "pretty one", the "thin one"... I grew up in her shadow... I was her little sister... never able to be mom's "favorite"... These are painful thoughts, years of feeling self-loathing... today I took these photos of myself with love & forgiveness, & thoughts of "I am beautiful"... chubby, but beautiful...
My heritage was my sense of myself as a "fat person"... not quite worthy of beauty & love. Feeling deep pains as I write this... but today is the day I fight back & say "It's OK to be fat"... It's beautiful if you feel beautiful inside, if you are loved deeply by a wonderful man & if you love yourself enough to forgive yourself for being "fat"...
I think these photos of myself are full of love & beauty... that's how I feel about [ME]... today.

The video felt like an exorcism viewed through a kaleidoscope with its richness of shapes and colors, and at other moments there was the simple purity of free-fall flight -- into healing... I played the video a bunch of times -- first with the sound only, then with only the images, then integrated. Then on the fourth viewing I was struck with the message of the universality and the complexity and the power and the joy of human sensuality.

My mother's heritage to me was her sense of herself as a "fat person"... not quite worthy of beauty and maybe this is why she admired and "loved" my sister more, for she was the "beautiful one".... Maybe I was too much a mirror to her.
Feeling deep pains as I write this... but today is the day I fight back and say to my mother "It's OK to be fat"... It's beautiful if you feel beautiful inside, if you are loved deeply by a wonderful man, and if you love yourself enough to forgive yourself for being "fat"....

A Photo Where I Recognize Myself…
March 8, 2023: This week, I’ve been #reading about #love and the concept of #LettingGo. If you follow my highlights here, you’ve likely seen my sharing of posts that examine #selflove and #selfcare.
Embedded in the concept of unconditional love is the idea of letting go, or of letting things be. Kain Ramsay, in his @udemy course, #Mindfulness Practitioner Diploma, describes how: “Letting go is a way of simply accepting things as they are. Let your experience be what it is and practice observing it from #moment to moment. Sometimes things end, and sometimes people end.”
It’s one of the nine attitudinal foundations of mindfulness, as described by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn. Specifically, Kabat-Zinn notes how this process can be painful, “… but the letting go is actually the doorway to freedom, and it’s something you don’t do once - it’s something you practice over and over and over again, moment by moment by moment. Every time you catch yourself clinging to something you remind yourself that it’s possible to just let it be, and to just let it go. The breath can remind us of that because every time we take a breath in, we have to let it go.”
@leeoralexandra notes how, “…whenever a challenge comes up, just let go, and you’ll open more. And that’s my path, it’s the path of the ocean, of love, of seeing God in everybody. And one of the things stops us from seeing God in everybody is attachment. Attachments come from the ego. Do you feel you can only be happy if you have this person in your life? Or this thing? Or this experience? Or this event? Or maybe it’s an attachment to who you want to be or who you see yourself as, to who you think you are.“ Alexandra also notes how “Our attachments are nightmares. When we’re attached, we are at the whim of our attachments and that’s such a heavy way to live…“
It’s something I’ve thought a lot about in recent weeks, especially as I find myself at a kind of a crossroads in my life - one where I can continue on the path where anxiety and depression continue to weigh down my life and muddy up my reflections and decisions. @aarondoughty44 explains, “…the key to this is realizing that it’s the #power of coming back to self, and not #abandoning yourself any longer. The most #magnetic thing you can do is to pull back your #energy, to be and feel safe in your own body… that allows you to heal (and in situations where another is involved), and it allows them (to heal), go through and get the space they’re asking for.”
It’s something that terrifies me. In a @coursera program on mindfulness I’ve been working through, it asked us to rate the level of difficulty we found an attitudinal foundation to be in terms of implementing it in our life. In terms of actualized practice, I rated it a 9/10, or very difficult. But ultimately, it’s a concept I know I need to do some serious work on.

Love [ME] tender
This series of intimate self-portraits has been a long time coming... it was my sister who was the "pretty one"... the "thin one"... the "smart one"... I grew up in her shadow... I was her little sister... never quite matching up to her, never able to be mom's "favorite"... These are painful thoughts, years of feeling self-loathing... today I took these photos of myself with love and forgiveness, and thoughts of "I am beautiful"... chubby, but beautiful...
My mother's heritage to me was her sense of herself as a "fat person"... not quite worthy of beauty and maybe this is why she admired and "loved" my sister more, for she was the "beautiful one".... Maybe I was too much a mirror to her.
Feeling deep pains as I write this... but today is the day I fight back and say to my mother "It's OK to be fat"... It's beautiful if you feel beautiful inside, if you are loved deeply by a wonderful man, and if you love yourself enough to forgive yourself for being "fat"....
I think these photos of myself are full of love and beauty... that's how I feel about [ME].... today....

I am grateful for goals with soul. I spent the morning going through a desire map workbook to bring myself to my core desired feelings. Jotting down words, crossing out words, circling words, all based on how I want to feel in 2016. The process is beautiful. I love words. The idea is to create goals and make plans based how you want to feel. Make sense, right? Thank you to my great friend Carrie for introducing me to Danielle LaPorte and her books last year. This is my 2nd year creating goals with soul.
