A person grows up and is no longer outwardly the gangly and awkward or stubby and fat kid that got made fun of but blossoms into something amazing and beautiful. Inwardly, the rejection and insecurity still haunts them and they interpret compliments as insincere. It seems odd when we hear a model or movie star admit to being insecure or shy, yet their self-image is overshadowed by the slights and insults of youth.

And foolish notion:"
- Robert Burns
