Buddha Lal Das faced discrimination due to his ulcers until he learned self-care. His self-care group is now a self-help group running a savings credit scheme and Buddha Lal sees the importance of raising awareness in the community.

Designed by Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1917, this neighborhood was created industrialist Clayton Mark. It was a planned community, middle class, with the goal of providing affordable housing, retail and a school. Unfortunately, industry exploded in the area. Refineries, steel, chemical plants. The community is surrounded on all sides. Square blocks have been demolished, the retail cornerstone is abandoned and crumbling (that's where I shot these photos.) Most of the houses are falling apart. Those families that remain, mostly Hispanic, are doing their best to maintain what they have. Difficult, since much is abandoned.
Many are townhouses - one side of the house is abandoned, rotting, roof caved in, while on the other side of the common wall, is a nicely maintained home. Sad, really.

Our politicians certainly help themselves, they are a shady set of characters, very thrifty when it comes to spending their own money and see it as their duty to line their own pockets.

On Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009, we had Three (3) Speakers - Holly Baade (pronounced Bay-Dee),Johnnie McClelland, and Jairek Robbins.
Holly Baade spoke about her journey as The Joyful Warrior, and showed us what a drum solo was really supposed to be like.
Johnnie Marie McClelland spoke on Having Great Relationships
And Jairek Robbins gave a presentation on Creating Value regardless of the economy!
As usual, Sheena prepared a great buffet dinner for us, and we ate plenty good too!
The group is growing, we had around 40 people in attendance tonight. Not bad for our third meeting.

Ghanash and his daughter Siwani have both had leprosy. TLM has provided them with a low-cost house. Ghanash belongs to a self-help group. He took a loan to buy cows, they sell they milk. They also grow vegetables and sell them at market.
