I miss my phone in this pic. It has a role as shooter for my daily companions; a pocket, 10 GB internet prepaid card, one of design book trilogy, -1.5 glasses, Evoque diecast, mouse, 8% caffeine white coffee, and 13" ultrabook. Yes, last May i decided to resign from my nine years job and focus as a self-employed editorial designer.
Find me (again) on...
Gretchen's family live in Montana; she had been living in Seattle before moving to Europe. I mentioned that my wife and I enjoy Grey's Anatomy, the TV series that is based in the fictitious Seattle Grace Hospital. Gretchen told me that she belonged to a mutant bike club in Seattle and it had been used in one of the plots of the show. She hadn't been on the show, they had used actors rather then actual members of the club.
Gretchen still enjoys cycling and has a touring bike. I think that she would use it more if she was less busy at work. She agreed with me that bicycles let you see more than if you were driving and you can cover more ground than when walking.
Gretchen had been enjoyed in sculpture at college, then tought pre-school children before moving to Europe. In Germany she learned how to make puppets and developed her skills in performance. She now lives in Norwich, England, making puppets, sets and props. She travels the UK entertaining adults and children.
When I asked if I might be able to see some of Gretchen's work on line, she told me that I could but she hadn't updated it for a long time. You can see some pictures at puppetsbygretchen.tumblr.com.
Like many self-employed, she finds it hard to refuse work and ends up being too busy to take time off. Thankfully today her friend and fellow puppeteer, Gemma, persuaded her to visit Glastonbury and its tor. They had a gig in nearby Taunton yesterday. Gemma drives the van, as Gretchen does not yet hold a UK driving licence. I wished Gretchen well for her driving test, which she is taking next month.
While Gretchen and I chatted, Gemma joined a group that were listening to a local guide. Gemma was much more interested in the history, myths, legends and mystical aspects of the tor. Gretchen did go and stand at the point where the ley lines cross. Figuring that she was at the top of the tor anyway, so why not.
Thank you Gretchen for agreeing to be in my project. It was good to meet you and Gemma. Best wishes with your work and your driving test.

Little brother with the little goatee has ran a body shop for years and is quite good at it. For moneys sake, he purchase a small town abandoned school , knocked a hole in one side, tore out some partitions , put in a overhead door and made this his little place to destroy and fix automobiles.
His speciality is building roadsters from the frame up. I could have polished up his establishment, but I wanted to display it this way.

ONE OF MY FIRST "REAL JOBS" WAS A PAPER ROUTE IN EARLY FIFTIES. AT AGE 12, I WAS DELIVERING RX PRESCRIPTIONS FROM THE HALL DRUG STORE ON MY BIKE. IT WAS AN EVENING JOB, FROM ABOUT 6PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT. THERE WAS NO LIMIT TO THE RADIUS IN MOST CASES. A FIFTY-CENT TIP WAS CONSIDERED GOOD FORTUNE. I LATER BECAME A SODA JERK FOR THE SAME DRUG STORE AND MADE THOUSANDS OF MALTS AND SHAKES IN THOSE CHROME CONTAINERS WITH THE GREEN CERAMIC ARMS. CHERRY COKES AND LEMON COKES WERE HOT. SOME OF THE GIRLS WERE PRETTY HOT TOO; I RARELY HAD TO MIX THE MALTS WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE OR TWO PRETTY YOUNG LADIES SWEET TALKING ME FOR A FREEBIE. AND THEN,THERE WAS THE SUMMER WHEN SHIRLEY STOPPED IN AND STAYED ALMOST ALL SUMMER. WOW. GREAT MEMORIES. MORE ABOUT THE "LIFE AND TIMES OF A SODA JERK IN THE 1950S" LATER. OR PERHAPS I WILL DO A FEATURE IN A BLOG. SUGGESTIONS? ANY MEMORIES TO SHARE?

In my latest trip to Madhupur, I meet some kids who were forced to choose between having food on the table or getting an education. These kids, some as young as eight years old, have to work full-time. They are able to study part-time (two hours a day) because some local community members got together and made a informal school for them to attend for free. They are taught Bengali, English, and math by a school teacher who gets paid a mere $15 a month as a salary.
This photo is of Johnny - a 16 year old boy who dropped out of school in order to earn a living. He is one of the students at the part-time school I mentioned. He owns and runs this tea shop. This photo is of him working at his stand. He's refilling a tray of water which he uses to wash the cups of tea when they are done as well as to wash down the counter.
This photo is a supplement to a video I have on YouTube. You can check that video out here:
