Madagascar hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa). Yes it is the one from all "The Mummy" films. My guide found four together under some bark and disturbed them so I could get a photo and get a chance to hold them. Let me tell you that I struggled to hold them comfortably, but after much deliberation and self control even managed to make one hiss at me. They are HUGE and as creepy as they look.

For the Rovingian Council, the face of Buddha, the colors, and the hand positions take on a profound spiritual meaning. I love roast beef, smoked salmon, cheesy omelettes, steamed seafood, spicy shrimp, chicken salads,and more. So Sunday brunch is a lifelong weakness. It does strengthen my jaw & stomach muscles. 😀

"Shibuya crossing" - A pedestrian crossing in the elegant commercial district of Shibuya in an incipient sunset. I was therefore surprised by the density of the population which is equal to its self-control and education. Seeing this photo today in times of social distancing makes a little smile ... However for us Westerners it would be bitter to smile! Because they, the Japanese, are one of the nations least affected by Covid despite having a population density unthinkable for us. Discipline and sense of responsibility ... quite another matter for Europeans or in the USA! Then ... look at the asphalt. See paper, waste, cigarette butts! Yet millions of people pass through this street every day ... Ahh! How far away is Japan!

Journal Entry November 22
"I was back in the park today, this time to meet Kerri. She is a volunteer in the upkeep of the park landscaping, particularly the flowers. Kerri is in the Ladies Bible Study I teach and had asked if I could meet her at the park as she finished her duties and then have lunch. I happily agreed. As God arranged it, her question was on Psalm 103:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.
As it compared to Nahum 1:
A jealous and avenging God is the Lord;
The Lord is avenging and wrathful.
The Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries,
And He reserves wrath for His enemies.
The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
And the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.
In whirlwind and storm is His way,
And clouds are the dust beneath His feet.
How to reconcile those two? As Kerri framed her thoughts and questions, I noted her handling of the flowers. Expertly clipping and pruning excess while handling the blooms with the greatest of care. Oh yes, she replied, the blooms are quite delicate. She explained how easily they could bruise and be damaged. I pointed out that though the excess she had unflinchingly cut away were part of the same plant, the bloom itself was treated so carefully. It is that way with Christians, I explained.
When the lost soul repents and believes upon the Lord Jesus Christ they are no longer under God's wrath for Jesus has paid for every one of their sins. There is nothing left to judge. Thus, as we go through life God patiently watches over us as we live in rebellion against Him, bringing us to the day wherein He saves us. God could justly destroy us for any one of our transgressions but, instead, cuts away those parts of our lives that bring misery to us and separate us from Him, all the while gently handling our delicate souls with the utmost care.
He remembers that we are but dust. Our frame is weak clay. We are so temporal, here today, gone tomorrow. Our window of opportunity to receive God's gracious salvation is so short. So He is gentle with us. I read to Kerri from Romans 11:
Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
For God's gentle kindness, I give thanks today."

Creatures Of The Night: K2 Self Control On Lookout Under Mid-December Winter Full Moon At NY Home - IMRAN®
It’s hard to believe this deep, dark (K9)night moment was captured minutes after merely 6 PM on December 13, 2024, at my blessed Long Island, New York home. The full moon lit up the cold blue sky, while shadows cloaked the world at my feet in even deeper darkness.
K2 sat in absolute quiet, watching creatures of the night—while being one himself. Words from Laura Branigan’s soul-shaking song Self Control echoed loudly in my mind. But despite noticing deer stir nearby the German Shepherd never lost his self control.
