WEMBLEY 26/02/2023 Newcastle United vs Manchester United. Around 160 coaches turned up for the Carabao Cup Final and as usual a good selection of makes and models of varying ages came to have their photos taken by the assembled bus photting community. Highlights for this visit were a pair of McGill's Tourismos, a 1994 Jonckheere Monaco that has recently been on a couple of aid trips to Ukraine, 3x new Volvo 9700s for Sky Coaches, a mysterious Van Hool Astromega, and a suitably decorated minibus in NUFC colours!

A recent online conversation reminded me that I must have plenty of untouched travel photos taken with my old GRDIII that traversed the globe with me ...and indeed I did. I want to add some, and we begin with three from New Zealand.

Taken at first light in Hahei on the Coromandel.

This shot comes from a trip across to North Sydney that I took on the ferry with my girlfriend Sonia to capture some sunset shots at the end of a tempremental and storm-threatened day.

Luckily for us the clouds didnt really produce much rain whilst we were out and they were kind enough to make some really nice formations over the city for us.

I took this at around the exact point of sundown (it was hard to tell as the clouds and city skyline were in the way) and almost forgot to hit the shutter button as I was standing gazing into the beautiful light created as the sun reflected off the clouds above.

Today's story and sketch by me 1578 is my third assignment as a special agent of the hereafter, to investigate what caused, or who caused the most important persons in history to disappear. Today I was mysteriously transported to a camper, the year 1928 you see I'm here at lake Okeechobee to investigate the disappearance of Seemore Clemp, Seemore was actually the first artist, cartoonist to draw a mouse cartoon character. Seemore was a Florida State College roommate of Walter Disney. Today's date September 17 1928. This is the morning Seemore, the camper, and spooky looking weeping malaluca tree disappeared from the face of the earth. This case is actually easy to solve, as I look on the window, I see the strong wind currently 180 miles per hour has already blown all the leaves off the malaluca, and is about to pick up and destroy the camper. I'm pressing the return to the hereafter headquarters button on my special agent wrist watch, before the hurricane gets really bad. The good part of this tragedy is Seemore, left all of his drawings in the dorm room. Until the next dramatic story from the hereafter, TaTa The Rod Blog

Just Bad Boys doin' what Bad Boys do. Still missing Jinx and Mammoth

Today's story and sketch by me 1560, is a about Seemore Switt, who is a Budahunga accidental tourist. Who arrived a few years ago through a dimension portal, riding the very Personal Mobility Scooter, he is pulling a monster Budahunga Grouper with. Seemore is possibly the greatest Fishermen in the Cosmos. He fishes every morning at dawn, never letting anyone see his technical fishing skill or the type of bait he uses. He sells his fish to The Last Fish Taco Stand At The End Of The Galaxy. Which is conveniently located next to The Budahunga Bad Ass Bait And Sporting Goods store. Until next time Tata the Rod Blog.

Van Hool EX16M 25 EXG in Stratford-upon-Avon this afternoon, 26th August, 2021. It was new to Lancashire Bus as YJ19 AYP and now carries Seemore Travel branding.

Today's story and sketch "by me" you see another dimension traveler who's spacecraft was infected with what has been identified as the NAVO Virus, a nasty virus that suddenly begins playing opera music over a spacecrafts sound system, then it sends the craft Flying into an alternative Dimension. It was nicknamed the "NAVO" Virus, "Neurological Alien Voodoo Opera, Virus, It was discovered by Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy, and neurological scientists in the Galaxy, I knew what it was when the call came into the Man Caves emergency line this morning. I sent Deputy Seemore to the crash site, Seemore is not only a Deputy in the "MCPPOTG" Man Cave Posse Protectors Of The Galaxy, but also a member of the elite Man Cave Ninja Hostage Extraction Team, and the official Man Cave tactical sportswear model. Seemore you may notice is wearing a Man Cave Tactical Sports Jacket, that is not only bullet, fire, acid proof, but can absorb a laser blast or direct lightning strike of up to Fifty Killawatts. There are a limited number of Tactical Sports Jackets now available in the Man Caves Official Merchandise, for the Man or Woman, or the not so sure person's Gift Shop, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

As is well known, the B10M was a hugely successful product for Volvo and many thousand were sold worldwide in coach and bus form. It has long since been superseded by other models but some remain in service in the UK. Seen here is F90 CBD, an example with a Jonckheere Deauville body that was new to Go Goodwin's of Manchester in 1989. Some time ago it was repurchased by Goodwin's and has been subject to what looks to be a long and detailed restoration. It is seen here in some early sun at the UK Coach Rally in Blackpool on 1 April 2023.

Behind is the current Volvo coach flagship, the 9900 which is based on the B11R chassis. Not many of these have been sold to UK operators, but Brethertons Gold Line Tours from near Preston is among them with GL22 HOL. The black-based livery looks very well on the distinctively-styled 9900. Both coaches await entry into the driving heats here.

Work brought me back to Chicago. My hotel had a decent view of the Tower. In addition, I took advantage of being able to crack the window open just enough, to get the camera outside. One shot taken at dawn, the other at dusk. Enjoy!

Some of the most stars I've ever seen were in Aotearoa. This night and one other was even more ridiculous as the most lumenessence in the waves and water I'd ever seen was happening simultaneously... Impossible to capture, but this serves as a reminder.

REUNION OF GIANTS - The Official Lancaster UK Tour Trailer - YouTube

It has been 50 years since two Avro Lancaster bombers flew side by side. The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Avro Lancaster, VeRA, flew from Hamilton, Ontario to meet her British counterpart, Thumper—the only other surviving flight worthy Lancaster bomber in the world—the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's (BBMF) Lancaster in England.

Suddenly SeeMore...Productions Inc's specialty is reality adventure television and the people who make it. REUNION OF GIANTS documents this historic mission as it unfolds, through the eyes of the flight crews, veterans, friends and family—all part of the bombers’ history, including this new chapter as VeRA crosses the Atlantic.

Commerce, Art,

Science, Reason

Plus Some Lies About Colonial

Cherry Trees and Green Pines

This 1904 image of Commerce Street is taken from the perspective of Barrow Street (once Reason Street) facing south. Prior to being developed for housing, this part of Commerce Street was a boundary line between the Gomez Farm on the Herring Estate toward the East (to the left of the horse cart) and farmland owned by Trinity Church (to the right of the horse cart), West toward the Hudson. The three buildings at the far right were replaced in 1912 by a single white-brick building that now houses Commerce Restaurant.

The area was never a business district, so why Commerce? Paris, which also has its Rue du Commerce, has the answer. Along with nearby streets named for Art, Science, and Reason, Commerce Street was mapped out in the late 1790s toward the end of the Enlightenment following the French Revolution, when such ideals were to be woven into the fabric of daily city life. It was believed that these types of philosophical principals could be found in individual endeavors more powerful than the church hierarchy or the authority of hereditary aristocracy and could be used to combat tyranny, superstition, ignorance, and poverty. Some 200 years later only Commerce remains.

Art Street was neither straight nor enduring. Parts of Art Street followed what is now Eighth Street north of Washington Square Park toward Astor Place. By 1840 most of Art Street had already been renamed. Science Street, also short-lived, was just above the path of Art Street now Waverly Place.

Reason Street was named as a tribute to Thomas Paine’s “Age of Reason,” a text central to these revolutionary thoughts. Paine’s politics remained controversial after his death, and in 1826 the street was renamed for Thomas Barrow, a popular artist.

Cherry Lane is the neighborhood theatre founded in 1924 and, since 2003, an honorary street name (posted on Seventh Avenue). The theatre’s name is just a play on London’s Drury Lane Theatre, so to embellish this simple phonetic association co-founder William Rainey dreamed up an imaginary cherry-tree-lined cow path that passed through the old Gomez Farm. This mischievous publicity stunt was so convincing that many believe Cherry Lane to be the street’s original name. The story is memorialized on a completely inaccurate bronze plaque at the corner of Commerce and Bedford.

While The Cherry Lane might take its name from London, the name Greenwich Village has little to do with England. The area was named in the 1670s when Yellis Mandeville moved from his Long Island settlement and transplanted the name of his old district to his new estate on Manhattan. The Dutch “Greenwijck,” or Pine District, was later anglicized into Greenwich.
