I find the wake that follows boats and ships mesmerizing.

This image looks like the ocean painted it.

The beautiful deep sea blues and greens add depth, while the foaming white wash adds to the ocean's fluid motion.

A cresting wave on the Pacific coast at Bandon, Oregon.

Migrating Cormorants fly above stormy seas...

I live next to Lake Michigan and though it can get very rough and resemble the water above, this was a composite image. The Cormorants were captured by me a couple days ago as they were passing northward by the thousands. The waves were added from my favorite online editor, picmonkey.com...

While Lake Michigan is considered the most dangerous of the five Great Lakes due to the most loss of life through the years, the highest waves ever recorded were on Lake Superior on October 24, 2017, and they were 29 feet high!

Still, Lake Michigan is often very rough and 23 foot high waves were recorded in September of 2011.

The Lake is incredibly beautiful, but it can be terribly dangerous and must be respected.

Flying over the lake last summer, but now frozen forever in my photograph. Crows and their silhouettes continue to be a favorite subject of mine!

My main priority when photographing wildlife is that I do no harm. I am careful not to trample or damage habitat, and I don't 'pose' my subjects by moving them or interfere with their behaviour in any way. I like getting natural shots, and in doing so I can also observe natural behaviour; I also love when the subject chooses to interact with me. I happened on this lovely male buffish mining bee on a chilly day, and he flew onto my hand to get warmed up. He stayed onboard for a full 10 minutes before departing! (It was fairly difficult to get a photo using just my one free hand to support the camera.)

This stunning bee is a Gooden's nomad bee, Nomada goodeniana, a female, I think, which is named after Reverend Samuel Goodenough (1743-1827). I just love their eyes!

Nomad bees, which tend to look very wasp-like, are so named as they do not have 'homes'; they are also known as cuckoo bees, because, being cleptoparasites, they lay their eggs in the nests of other bees. On hatching in the nest of the host, the nomad bee grub eats the food of the host bee grub, and then uses its large mandibles to kill the host grub.

Gooden's nomad bee is a cleptoparasite of the buffish mining bee, Andrena nigroaenea, among other Andrena species.

I photographed this individual in May 2020 (trying to get my bee photos and records in order before my Bee50 challenge!)

365 Project - Day 41

This photo is from the Saturday practice run of the 2013 Mavericks Invitational back in January. During the event, I took more than 800 pictures ( in case anyone has wondered why I have so many shots ^^). This photo was about 4 frames before the Mavericks Men photo that I posted a few weeks ago.

The surfer on the left has this tightness to his stance that is just admirable with a wave like that at his back. I love that you can see a second surfer's board just barely peeking out from the top of the curl.

I love watching the waves on a windy day, the colours in the water often remind me of glass.

The water colors at the north shore of Kauai were amazing.

For 'Macro Mondays' theme of 'Complementary Colours'.

A very obvious subject for this weeks theme.

No trouble in finding the the reels of thread - too much choice really when I looked one of M's collections.

The 'orange' is one of Dewhurst's TRYLCO terylene threads and is described as 'Flame' coloured.

The 'blue-green' is a Coats' DRIMA polyester thread of no specified colour.

The needle - the bigest I could find cos I had to thread it, has obviously seen better days.

And I have put everything back where I think I found it - there will be trouble if I haven't. !!
