And bad scrum. However, these bees were moving so fast that I could usually only catch one or two on the approach. That's why there is a summary of the story with several pictures to see here ;-) It was incredibly fascinating to watch the busy bees doing their busy work. There were so many, back and forth again and again – digging earth out of the tunnel, whirling it with the wings, flying to the neighbors' roses, cutting leaves, rolling them up, transporting them to the flower pot and crawling into the depths of the soil ... I hope my oleander will survive ;-)

Und arges Gedrängel. Allerdings waren diese Bienen so schnell unterwegs, dass ich meistens nur eine oder zwei im Anflug erwischen konnte. Deshalb gibt es hier eine Zusammenfassung der Geschichte aus mehreren Bildern zu sehen ;-) Es war unglaublich faszinierend, die umtriebigen Bienen bei ihrer emsigen Tätigkeit zu beobachten. Es waren so viele, immer wieder hin und zurück – Erde aus dem Tunnel wühlen, mit den Flügeln wegwirbeln, zu den Rosen des Nachbarn fliegen, Blatt zuschneiden, aufrollen, zum Blumentopf transportieren und in die Tiefen des Erdreichs hineinkrabbeln ... Ich hoffe, mein Oleander überlebt es ;-)

Later in the evening the activity on Mud Lake starts to gear down, and the habitat compression becomes less evident. The Wood Ducks especially seem to find a way to disengage from the daily scrum.
I suppose one could tire of photographing Wood Ducks, and certainly people can tire of seeing them. But the differences in development - here, for example, a young male shows his transitioning plumage - and light and temperament, on top of the amazing plumage displays, makes them an irresistible subject.
This is Scrummage, he lives on a 1930 Sailing Cutter that sails from Swanage, give him a biscuit and he'll show you the ropes.
Well, maybe not a scrum, but never having seen these birds before, that's what it looked like when I first encountered these birds.
I was on my second drive north to Alaska from Maryland and I was on the Alaska Highway between Whitehorse and Tok. I was passing by Kluane Lake when I saw what appeared to be a flock of birds on the water, so I quickly stopped and walked back past some trees to see what was there. Nothing. I scratched my head thinking that I had seen something and wondering if they had flown away. Just then these ducks started to reappear on the surface one by one. Obviously diving ducks of some kind but my word, what a head and beak on these birds! I watched as they would repeatedly dive as a group, leaving the surface together, and then after about 30 seconds they would reappear. And while on the surface it was as though they were talking about the recent dive just before they dove again. I watched them for about a half an hour just mesmerized by their behavior!! In this photo about half of them have already dove and you can see the tail-feathers of those going down.

Four rough and ready male Humpbacks were jostling and surging and bumping in order or impress a lovely lady Humpback swimming quite quickly ahead of them. (The fourth whale is the submarine blue shape of a pectoral fin just to the left of the middle whale.) Whale courtship is unusual behavior along our coast, but it is late November and the hormones are clearly flowing. The lady in question used our boat to play hide-and-seek-but-mostly-hide with the rambunctious guys. We split before it got serious.
The "scrum" at Kirkjufellfoss. Some of them needed a lesson in photography etiquette, so I gave one.

…… Another look at the super sculpture by Jacob Chandler at the new Rugby services on the end of the M6 just prior to the M1, highly recommended services if you need a driving break. Taken on my phone in Apple RAW & edited to B&W in Lightroom, again I was very pleased with the phones capture of this scene. See previous post or 1st comment box here for a view from the other side. Went to see Canada play Scotland in the Churchill Cup 2006 @ Twin Elm Rugby Park tonight. Good game, and we came close - Scotland won the match 15-10.
I'm not sure of the correct name for a collective of photographers but perhaps scrum will work. The number of people, tripods, and cameras ebbed and flowed for almost the entire three hours on this weekend morning. Thankfully the weekday later was much less populated and didn't include the light rain. As you can tell, Caddo Lake State Park has become quite popular. This was the Sunday of a holiday weekend.
Coming together as a community to enjoy a game of amateur Rugby League. Eighty minutes of good hard rugby followed by a couple of pints and a good craic in the club house after the match. #flickrfridaytogether #flickrfriday
A game of 2 halves on Saturday as Jersey Rugby Club played Doncaster Knights at St Peter. Atrocious wind would mean that both sides would have to play against it over the match.
Jersey would take 17 points in the first half and Doncaster would later equalise, the final points occuring late into stoppage time.
