The following scripture is conveyed in Luke 8: 16-17, “No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lamp stand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.”

Another shot of the old Scripture Building after the fire. Note the inscription: 1882. R. C. Scripture. Remember, 1882 is less than thirty years after the town was founded. These people worked very hard to put their town on the map. UPDATE: This is now the site of Dix Coney Island cafe, a 24/7 place. The negative has deteriorated, causing a color shift. This was probably shot on Kodak stock, among the highest quality in the industry. Nevertheless, color stock will deteriorate with age.

This is my 6x6 page for the 2013 Hymn & Scripture Challenge. Our word and study this week are on the hymn “My Faith Looks Up to Thee." I had a lot of trouble with this page. I just could not get this page to work. There are layers of gesso, paint, splattered paint, washi tape, strips of paper, you name it. The entire kitchen sink is on the page, and nothing worked. Before throwing it away and starting again, I just decided to crumple up a piece of vellum and place over it to tone it all down and hide a few things. I guess I decided that I am "okay" with the final result. :) The last piece I added to this page was the zipper. Since I was "throwing in the kitchen sink," I may as well throw on a zipper. LOL! I also thought it went well thinking about keeping myself joined with Christ just as the teeth of a zipper join together.
I will also point out the Blue Fern Studios Ornate Medallion. I painted it with Adirondack cranberry and shell pink paint dabbers, Jenni Bowlin chili powder dabber, Heidi Swapp tinsel mist, and then added Glossy Accents on top. I just kept playing with it until I got the desired look. The scripture I used was 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. I felt it really encompassed this hymn and what our family should be doing right now. God has a purpose for what we are going through with my daughter’s potential brain surgery, and He has a purpose in your suffering too! “When we place our faith in God, we can trust Him to care for us and help us overcome the things in our lives that would destroy us. We have nothing to fear in this life if we put our complete trust in God as our guide, deliverer and protector.” --- Commentary from the SPIRITUAL RENEWAL BIBLE, Zondervan Publishing.
