This is Ullapool in Scotland on a very misty morning, I let the atmosphere speak for itself! taken of Fujichrome slide film and scanned in PS. this is the original version!
Brightly coloured fresh female nectaring on brambles in the late afternoon sunshine at Arnside Knott in Cumbria (UK) (7886) - the only female spotted in three visits to the site in the last week of July, so possibly the first of the season at Arnside. Females typically appear about a week after the males take to the wing.

A speciality of only a few sites in Cumbria in Northern England, but more widespread in Scotland. The velvety appearance means that they scratch very quickly, so best visited early in the season. Females usually appear a little later than the males and are slightly larger and more brightly marked - this fresh female was the only one spotted amongst the dozen or so seen (6127).
This was taken from the coach by Louize as we were heading down the mountain to get that ferry to cruise down the river Clyde in Scotland, and what a stunning view and atmosphere!
Basking on bracken during a cloudy spell at Arnside Knot in Cumbria back in early August (UK) (6136)
An early season female showing off her bright eye-spots in the late afternoon sunshine at Arnside Knott in Cumbria (UK) (7802) - a beautiful 'brown velvet' colouration when fresh, but they rapidly become scratched and tatty within a few days!

A pristine, bright female basking on the bracken between downpours on Arnside Knott in Cumbria (UK) (9834). An English rarity, occurring at only two sites south of the border!
The morning mist turned into the afternoon mist as there was no wind and the sun struggled to break through.

The River Clyde on a misty March morning. HDR from 3 images, which I've then texturised to make less obvious and more atmospheric.
I count myself as someone who has been very fortunate over the years, for one thing, I was born in Scotland and I have developed a passion for capturing some stunning locations and preferably the ones that are hidden gems instead of the more well know locations. This picture was actually shot on the beach at Ardrossan, but it was not shot on the more well known part of the south beach with its mile long stretch of golden sand. This one was shot at the most northerly part of the south beach where these volcanic rocks can be seen when the tide is at a low ebb. Ayrshire has many hidden gems and this one is one of my favourites.
A fresh male from Smardale Gill in Cumbria (UK) (9757). Smaller and darker than the females, with less prominent eye spots. The males are usually on the wing a little before the females emerge.

I don't see Scotch Broom very often here but apparently it's a must-have plant in the garden this year as they sold lots of them at the gardening exhibition I visited last weekend.
