For all of you that celebrate Halloween, have fun.

My mom comes over to watch the trick-or-treaters at our door, then it's pizza for dinner, chocolates for dessert (I always buy extra treats!) and some scary movies.

And this year our clocks roll back an hour on Halloween night.....so even some extra sleep after a late night.

Rags putting on his scary face - more to come over the next days...

For Macro Mondays, 30th October 2023.

Theme: Spooky

We have big storms forecast for tonight and as we are almost certainly going to lose power, I am uploading to the Macro Monday Group a little early! This weeks theme is, quite rightly, Halloween! Wishing everyone a Happy Monday and to those in the UK affected by the storms, stay safe and take care out there tomorrow! HMM!

The tree in my back yard

on dark and stormy days

Becomes a life like creature

that peers out all gloomy and grey.

The water drips down

the thick recesses of the bark,

in well sought out paths,

eerily calling forth the beings

from within the tree.

Water, life giving water

falling from the sky

awakens my senses

and opens my eyes

to see.

The living souls all around us

the ones we do not see.

Other dimensions and places in time.

Uniquely linked and networked

in worlds unknown.

What we think we see,

we do not know

and what we think we know,

we do not see,

for blind are we to other lives

seeing not but our own.

he was at the end of a yawn but thought he resembled the "big bad wolf" from The Three Little Pigs (or Little Red Riding Hood).

*note - i do not think wolves are bad, i love them and think they are one of the world's most beautiful creatures and i hate that stories and fairy tales portray them as horrible beasts.

Not even sure what this thing is. At the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, CA.

There has been much speculation surrounding the mysterious objects discovered in the skies above Alaska, Northwestern Canada, and Lake Huron in recent days following an earlier downing of a suspected Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina.

A number of theories have circulated regarding the origins of these UFOs, from more spy balloons to the release of an oversized helium balloon that had escaped from the film set of the sequel to the film UP.

However, what is not yet widely known is the fact that one of the objects was carrying this alien life form!

It has been christened ‘Orchis’, from the Ancient Greek ὄρχις, meaning "testicle", by General Francis Drebbin commander of the North American Aerospace Defence Command as he referred to the press leak as a ‘complete balls up!’

Assignment: pca13 – Light Painting w/o post processing

Deadline: January 13th, 2008

Image Tag: pca13

From: wildlens2007 (Katherine)

Mission:

"Once the shutter is open use your flashlight to light the stuff that you want to "paint". You can use the flashlight as a brash, and "smear" the light, just like you would have done with brush and paper. Or, you can use the light as a pen, and do precise work. Areas where you go slowly will be more lit then others. Be careful not to linger to much over the same stop - you will burn it. (The machos amongst you will correctly identify this as the "I forgot the iron on the shirt" phenomena)."

WIT: I started outside originally with f22 ISO 1600 and around one minute exposure. That was so that focal point was less of an issue. The more I did, the more I was interested in putting faces in the frame. I moved inside to a dark room to have basically no background at all. After playing around with flashlights for a while with the kids, I decided on scary faces. Seeing what I wanted to go with, I moved to a strobe light I had, and I could get a shot like this in around 8 seconds, so I did a lot of them. With the much brighter light and shorter exposure time, I was able to get back down to ISO 200 and open the aperture back up to f/5.6

I used a burn tool on the teeth for the creepy effect which may be a stretch of the suggested rules. The exposed faces are purely the result of the strobed light hitting the sensor though. No cloning or compositing.

OOOOHHHHHHHHhhhhhh.....

Did I scare you? Here is my 365 halloween theme picture..day 2

BOO!

Tessa is a natural. Her everyday grumpy face looks downright scary at this time of year.

Well, I was out in the garden and turned around and thought - no way!! So, I ran in and grabbed my camera and after about 5-minutes this apparition appeared at our shower room window!!

We do have a very old house ... so maybe!! But we also have a funny little 5-year old grandson!!

Meet one of the permanent residents of York Minster in England. Unfortunately I don’t know his name so I can’t introduce you properly… and anyway, shaking hands might be a bit problematical.

Looking at his attire, I’d hazard a guess and say he’s a Tudor gentleman, so he’s been in residence at the Minster for 500 years or more. I’ve no idea how he lost his hands – and, judging by the look of surprise on his face, neither has he.

But he’s rather a well-dressed chap, isn’t he (just look at that ruff!), and probably a man of some standing, given his position within one of the most magnificent cathedral churches in England.

V I B E C H E C K . . . I figured since these emoji guys are, well, just heads, that they would be the easiest things to make. Nothing to much to say except that I love how accurate this guy turned out and I love how he looks in the end. I have 2 other cursed Emoji characters I'm going to make soon.

Care to come upstairs and view my etchings?

I'm still alive and I look like a psycho.

Canon EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

The stuff nightmares are made of is a scary abstract collage of a deformed skull with a starry night sky and smoke trails.

Relocated to this basement nook while the upstairs ceilings get an overhaul.

These figures were in woods near me. It was part of a project with local schools-using mud etc and wood to make them and then the rain washed them away.

They were spooky I can tell you!

I have a hidden face. My secret people. I have a life trying to hide for years. Now I'm having trouble hiding it. He wants to go outside. All my body wants to be dominant. I have a small taste of freedom. But he wants more. Has seized me. Do not be afraid. Because I live with him for years. My life is mixed. Does not interfere in my life. I can not give him more. It can not be allowed. That is very different. Dangerous. Stop may be required.
